Installation Of Officers. a Grandi^a Sezi I wuz a hearin' on the TV, t'other night, about the new group o' young folks, who*re involved in a complete turn about. They're a trvin' f find a new life, wi' the teachin's o' the Bible, an' the example o' Jesus Christ, as their guide. These younguns need t' find their own way, an* some have given up the drugs, se^jgin'ly wi'out much difficult/, which proves t' this o' lady that what they need is somethin't' believe in, an' their parents have failed 'em, perhaps because their grandparents, afore 'em, failed t' hand the good teachin's on, t' that generation. Cf course, I, as others, rea lize that this group is small, but it does represent a change in the thinkin' of the present young adults, toward a more satisfyin' form o' society than the one they wuz a tryin' t' find in the use o' drugs. Any- thin' is good, if it kin encour age folks t' face the world as it is, an' not try t' "Cop out," as the sayin' goes. Now, I'm a hopin' that they take the "Good Book" an' study it well, wi' the desire t' git the "Nitty-gritty," from it an' not t' find excuses fer what ever they have a mind t' in terpret in the writin's. Somehow, one has t' feel that there's some kind o' a turnin' point be in' reached by some. How serious these young folks take their rituals, is t' be seen. Pm a prayin' that the good will prevail an* that some in fluence will touch others, in a lastin' change o' conscience an' help the disastrous conditions, existin' in some groups. J The old adage, "The ^ ap ple '11 spoil the whole bar rel," ain't jist a joke. Unless there's a giant step forward f eliminate the DANGERS, beset- tin' our youngsters, we ain't a goin' t' see improvement in the human race. Young folks have f have an ideal t' set their sails by. They're so full <f young hot blood, atf if it ain't turned t* good use, it'll be turned fother way, an* destroy them an' a whole lot o* others, too, especially the folks who love 'em. I jist cain't git it inter my head that some o' these young men an' gals haven't someone who gives a care about what they do. Some parents don't know how t' guide the young, but they should learn, when they set out t' be parents. Schools fer that purpose 'd be a good eve ning course fer young adults. <•' Grandma Radtke Young Adult Group Tells Future Aims The young adult group of the Cooperative Extension Service in McHenry county met recently for the first time. Those at tending decided that participa tion in social, educational and community service activities will be the main emphasis. The background and present situa tion of similar young adult groips across the country was explained. Four committees were ap pointed to coordinate the ef forts of the group. These are the executive, program, social and refreshment committees. Any interested single person, aged 18 to 28, may join. For additional information contact Sue Ross at P.O. If you have one, treat it like a secret and keep it to your self. Take cover behind a hand kerchief when you sneeze--or else you might pass on your cold to someone else. Un covered, a sneeze sends vi ruses 20 feet, a cough sprays .them 12 to 14 feet and normal conversation spreads the vi ruses 8 feet. Katharine Neumann, McHen ry county Extension adviser, suggests to avoid catching a cold, stay away from persons who have them. Avoid using their towels, cups and drinking glasses. Wash your hands of ten, and always wash them be fore handling food or eating. When you have a cold, rest, eat sensibly, drink liquids, stay out of drafts and keep warm. Aspirin, antihistamines, ap proved nose drops and other medications won't cure your cold, but they may help you feel less miserable. Call a physician if you have persistent fever, chills, severe headache or ear or chest pains. The common cold has plagued man for 2,000 years, but per haps someday it will become the uncommon cold. Audubon Society In Annual Meeting Jan. 16 The annual meeting of the Mc Henry county chapter of the Ill inois Audubon society will be held Saturday, Jan. 16 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Farm Bur eau building in Woodstock. The purposes of the meeting are to present annual reports of the chapter's 1970 activities and to elect new officers for the coming year. All members are encouraged to attend. The 6:30 meeting will begin with a pot-luck simper for which ev eryone is asked to bring a dish to pass and his own service. The program will be pre sented by Maurice Watson, a Crystal Lake member, who will' show slides taken of club mem bers and field trips during the past couple of years. Anyone else having nature slides may bring up to ten and they will also be shown. Acting President Barbara Gay, who took over the-posi tion when President Ray Paige moved, will report on the year's activities and the field trips the club participated in during the past year. There will also be reports by the Conservation chairman and the Commemor ative Stamp chairman. All com memorative postage stamps are collected by members which are sent to, the Florida Audubon society. They are then, in turn, sold and the money received is used for study of the American Bald Eagle in an effort to pre vent its extinction. There will also be a report from the Special Projects chairman and the displays en tered by them in Garden Club flower shows and Earth-o-rama Which was held last September by the McHenry County Envi ronment Council. The nesting census and blue bird trail reports will be giv en by Chairmen Alice and Leta Clark. Records of nesting and young are kept of all blue bird boxes registered with the chapter in order to follow the population of the bluebird in McHenry county. There is also a general nesting census taken each year of any nests of any kind of species, eggs laid, young hatched and nestlings that grow • to leave the nest. This infor mation is then compiled by the Illinois Audubon society and re-, suits used to follow endangered species, changes in population of certain species and changes in nesting habits. A report will also be given by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson of the Christmas count just completed. Audubon groups from all over the country par ticipate in an eight-hour count of species and numbers of in dividual birds. These are com piled by the National Audubon society and used to follow en dangered species, popula tion and changes in bird hab its, movements and migration. Anyone wishing to attend the annual meeting on Jan. 16 is cordially invited to do so.
