Er- win Cornelius, assistant pro fessor of political science, said the classes are of interest both to college undergraduates and to all citizens of the college district who want a better un derstanding of government at 411 levels. The offerings include: 191 Introduction to World Af fairs (on Wednesday evening, or Tuesday and Thursday morn ings) This course is a survey of current foreign affairs. The course is intended for those seeking a better comprehension of today's international events. 151 American National Gov ernment (Monday-Wednesday- Friday mornings,-or Tuesday- Thursday mornings) This course thoroughly investigates the problems and processes of American government at the na tional level. A T.V. course in American National Government is also available for credit through the college. 155 State and Local Govern ments (Monday - Wednesday- Friday mornings) A study of the various problems of state and local governments in the U,S»„ as well as a thorough study of government in Illinois under the new Constitution. 150 Introduction to Political Science (Monday - Wednesday- Friday afternoons) A course investigating the various the ories and practices of setting up a political community. * Mr. Cornelius stressed that these courses are suited for a- dults in the college district with an interest in currentgovern- mental affairs. Registration for these courses is currently in progress at the interim cam pus, 6200 Northwest highway, Crystal Lake. Specialization ^ Age Challenges Shorthand Talent - The secretary with a wide knowledge of shorthand forms and a good rate of taking dic tation is constantly sought by business. An opportunity to build speed of dictation and enlarge one's vocabulary by studying the spe cialized terms for medicine, legal work, and other technical areas such as insurance, bank ing, electronics, plastics, chemicals, and textiles is to be found in Specialized Dic tation 108. This course will be offered Monday, Tuesday, Wed nesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at McHenry Coun ty college. This course is open to Gregg shorthand writers who have a minimum speed of 80 words per minute. Additional infor mation may be obtained by con tacting Miss Jeannette Van Von- deren at McHenry County col lege (815) 459-6800, Extension 35. Edison Company Asks Revised Rate Schedule Pressed by rising costs, Commonwealth Edison Com pany has filed with the Illinois Commerce commission revised rate schedules calling for an increase of about 10.4 per cent a year in charges to customers. According to J. Harris Ward, Edison chairman, the new rates will raise revenues by approx imately $95 million a year over current charges. He said the net gain to the company will be reduced to about $44 mil lion after federal and state in come taxes and other tax obli gations. All of the company's approximately 2Y2 million cus tomers will be affected by high er charges. For most residential cus tomers, the new rates will raise the price of a kilowatt-hour by about one-third of a cent. For average users of 400 kilowatt- hours a month this means an increase of a little more than four cents a day. Executive Committee In ^ Lay Institute Meeting rector, Dan Swetman, Women's committee chairman,Jgrs. Dick McManaway. l5r. Highlight "Truth" In Church Talk The divine source of wisdom and integrity and their avail ability to each individual will be emphasized at McHenry Christian Science church ser vices this Sunday. Highlighting the Lesson-Ser mon on "Truth" is the Golden Text from Psalms: "Hie truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise ye the Lord." A passage to be read from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy states: "No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God be stows." SUNDAY S A SERMON CLIFFORD WARDLE * The executive committee for the Greater McHenry Day In stitute For Evangelism (L.I.F.E.) met Jan 15 in the home of Executive Committee Chairman Clifford Wardle. Further plans for the institute were discussed and the various committee directors made their reports. Time, as the saying goes, march es on. Tomorrow can never be exactly the same as yesterday, or today. Tomorrow is another point in time. Yet, the pattern of our in dividual lives is such that we are frequently presented with famil iar opportunities. We do, indeed, often get that "second chance." The "second chance" is impor tant because each of us has capa city to learn. We have the power of recall, or memory. We may use it to meet new challenges with an awareness of past victories and losses--and past trespasses. Of ten, the second chance is really an opportunity to achieve in an area where once we failed. Believe that in life there is a second time around and you will find many opportunities to live the better life. People who deserve hap piness usually find it sitting on their shoulder. But although the landscape appears dormant, there is hidden life beneath the surface. One day it will be spring again, with water rushing over the mill wheel and corn being ground into meal. If you have been living in a winter of your own, why not take a lesson from the old mill? The winters of our life are bleak--they are hard to weather. But forever and ever there is the chance to start again. Spring will come and your church will sustain you through doubt and dis appointment and give you promise of another chance-- another life.
