Local Church , Establishes New - Parish Council Five initial commissions will be established when Christ the King church sets up its parish council. The liturgy com- - mission will enable the people of the parish to plaq worship services, the work of the choir, lectors, ushers and the care of the sacristy. Programs for a- dult and youth education will be the task of the education com­ mission in coordination with those people who are now in charge Of religious education. Some of the aims of the finance commission will be to set up an annual budget, finding the means to increase the weekly income to meet this budget and to approve any large spending. The building and grounds com­ mission will conduct a period­ ical inspection of the church property, be responsible for letting bids for repairwork and the supervision of work done. Finally, the social commission will plan adult activities, work with the youth and greet new parishioners in the church and community. As the necessity arrives, other new commis­ sions will be added to meet the needs of the parish. A gui­ dance committee composed of officers of all now formed com­ mittees of the church and var­ ious appointed individuals met on Jan. 24 to form a constitu­ tion and put the council together. Those involved in the organiza­ tion of this parish council stress the need for the interest and participation of every member of the parish. Think about it. Here's your chance to do your own thing. Many people in Wonder Lake will re­ member Rosemary as Dr. Rug­ ger o's smiling Irish nurse some years ago. Since leaving Won­ der Lake, she has married Dr. Efrain Garcia, who is a car­ diologist in a clinic in Houston, Texas, and is the mother of five daughters; Margarita, Al­ icia, Carmen, Sarah and Rose- anne. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kendrigan of Woodstock, visited Rosemary and her family in Texas over the Thanksgiving holidays. Ph. 678-6691 SNOWMOBILE PARTY Snowmobile parties are one of the most popular activities of the winter season at Wonder Lake. One of these was held on ^ Sunday, Jan. 17, when a group of thirty people gathered at the home of Rick and Mary Lou Cope to enjoy the snow and cold weather. There was plenty of activity going on including snowmobiling all over the lake and islands, tobogganing and some very excellent ice fishing where many blue gills were caught. Mary Lou's mom, Mary Miller, cooked up some great food for the hungry crowd to serve with the baked goods Mary Lou had prepared for the party. Sounds like almost as much fun as swimming and a picnic on a hot day! BIRTHDAY Happy Birthday to Scotty Par - quette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Parquette, who will be three years old on Jan. 29. Two McHenry Students On Dean's List A total of 406 students have been named to the dean's list for the first semester of the 1970-71 school year at Illinois Wesleyan university, Dr. John L. Clark, dean of the univer­ sity, has announced. The total represents an increase of eight percent over the number for the same period a year ago, and includes approximately one- fourth of the entire student body. To be placed on the dean's list a student must have earned a grade-point average of at least 3.250, based on 4.0 for straight A's, during the semes­ ter. Among those named to the list were Anthony J. Elliott and Dawn Guettler, both of McHen­ ry. McHenry Arect Girls Receive Nursing Caps Marybeth Idsteinand Joy Hot­ ter mann, both second year stu­ dents at St. Teresa college in. Winona, Minn., received their nursing caps Monday evening of last week. The beautiful cer­ emony took place in a chapel in St. Mary's hospital in Roch­ ester,. Minn. Both girls are nursing majors and will spend the next two years atSt. Mary's in training. The young ladies are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Gir- ard Idstein of Pistakee Hills and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hettermann of Johnsburg. Diane Cook Graduate Of Whitewater State A record number of seniors were granted baccalaureate de­ grees Sunday, Jan. 24, when Whitewater State university held its seventh mid-year com­ mencement at 2:30 p.m. in Wil­ liams center. Close to 600 WSU students were graduated com­ pared to last year's total of 400. The welcoming address was given by Dr. Raymond E. Light, acting dean of Whitewater State's newly-created College of the Arts. A new $5 million Fine Arts building houses the total departments of art, music and theater, plus segments of the dance, when occupancy is assumed next fall. Among the graduates were: Diane K. President Hyatt Designates USO Day, Feb. 4 At the Jan. 14 village meet­ ing in Lakemoor, President Richard rfyatt, designated Thursday, Feb. 4, as USO Day. The proclamation was printed Jan. 20. The village board alsopassed and approved, Ordinance No. 71-0-1, "An Ordinance to A- mend Chapter 17 Section 460 of the Municipal Code of the Village of Lakemoor." Said Or­ dinance was published in the Jan. 20, edition of this news­ paper. The next village meeting in Lakemoor will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 8 o'clock p.m. All residents are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings. VILLAGE CLERK'S OFFICE There is still time for any­ one interested in running for village trustee to file a nom­ ination paper, which may be picked up at the village clerk's home. There are four openings for village trustee, three 4 year terms, and one, two year term. Feb. 15 is the last day for fil­ ing. If you do not file before this time your name will not appear on the voter's ballot. The clerk also informs us that Feb. 20, is the last day for filing a withdrawal for the elec­ tion. It is also the last day for anyone to file an objection to the certificate of nomination papers. March 22 is the last day for people who are not registered voters to register. Those wish­ ing to do so may stop in at the village clerk's home, Pa- cita Morrison, 119 W. Valley View. The deadline for purchasing vehicle stickers is getting close, Feb. 15. The cost is the same, as last year. And when purchasing your dog license please bring along his rabies certificate. They flew to San Francisco for a few days where they visited their son and daughter-in-law in San Jose. They also went on a sight seeing tour all around San Fran­ cisco and had dinner at the Fisherman's Wharf. From there they flew to Los Angel­ es and saw Disneyland and also a sight seeing tour around Hollywood and many points of interest. They had dinner at the Palladium and danced to Lawrence Welk's orchestra. They took in the Tournament of Roses parade and the Rose Bowl football game. That was very interesting to see. From there they went to Phoenix, Ariz., where they spent a day with friends and relatives in Sun City. They said they had a very interesting trip and came home very tired but it was worth it. NEWS BITS Mrs. Marion Kauth of Sussex bowled a series of 519 -184- 185-150. The Kauths entertain­ ed Mrs. Kauth's nephew, Jack Rahe, and his fiancee from Whitewater college. They both will be graduating and then the wedding bells will ring for them. The Karl Sorensens on Sus­ sex drive are back from a hol­ iday trip spent with their sons, Ralph and Wendell, in Houston, Texas, and on the twenty-first they became grancfcarents to an 8 lb., baby girl, son Wendell's first child. This is the eighth grandchild for the Sorensons. Kennth Fairchilds, 1103Som- erset Mall, was elected the new president of the McHenry Sen­ ior Citizens club. He is re­ placing Lester Baker. The club is a jolly group of folks who really enjoy each other. They have lived just long enough to appreciate their friends and neighbors. Mrs. Grace Borchers, 1016 Somerset Mall, had Mr. and Mrs. Harold CoutrefromNiles, for dinner guests on Wednes­ day. Her daughter, Nancy, from Hart, Mich., will spend the weekend with her mother and they will celebrate Nancy's birthday together. Mrs. Quanstrum of Sussex is recovering from surgery at the McHenry hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Art Kuehn of 4709 Cumberland Circle spent the weekend with Mrs. Kuehn's brother, Bob Jannuesch, in Nor­ mal, 111. James B. Meyer On Dean's List At Southern State James B. Meyer of Carbon- dale, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don­ ald R. Meyer of Main street, McHenry, was among 3,355 un­ dergraduates posted to the fell quarter dean's list for aca­ demic achievement at Southern Illinois university's Carbondale campus. The figure represents 16 per cent of the undergraduate student body enrollment at Car­ bondale. Students are cited if they ach­ ieve a quarterly grade point av­ erage of 4.25 or better on SIlPs 5-point scale. They must have taken at least 12 hours of class work during the term.
