Tax Facts The deadline for employers to give employees their 1970 W-2 forms is Monday, Feb. 1, E.P. Trainor, district director of In ternal Revenue for Illinois, said this week. The form should show earn ings, income tax withheld and Social Security information. A copy of the W-2 form from each employer has to be filed by the employee with his in come tax return. Therefore, it is important that employers furnish W-2's to their employ ees by the date required to per mit timely preparation and fil ing of employee's tax returns. Feb. 1 also is the last day for reporting Social Security and withheld income taxes for the calendar quarter ended Dec. 31, 1970, according to Trainor. Employers who received a pre-addressed Form 941, "Employer's Quarterly Feder al Tax Return," should use this form to report their tax lia bility. Feb. 1 is also the last day for employers to report and pay the balance of Federal Un employment Tax due or the total tax, if unpaid for 1970, usfing Form 940. Deposits were re quired with an FTD Form 508 if one-third of this tax exceeds $100 for one or more quarters in 1970. "Circular E-Employer*s Tax Guide," Publication 15, fur nishes detailed information on these taxes. The handy publi cation can be obtained free by sending a post card to your lo cal IRS office.
