This was their first trip back since Thanksgiving. SURPRISE CALL Mrs. Doris Bayne received a phone call in the wee hours of Saturday morning (about 2 o' clock). It was her son, Al, calling from Washington where he has been stationed for his basic. See you next week. pany's senior vice-president, urges customers to ask callers for employe identification cards. Habenicht said all NI-Gas employes are issued identifi cation cards that display their photos and signatures. "Just knowing the purpose of a home call is not a safe check," he said. "A NI-Gas representative might call un- annbunced for one of several reasons - for example, to read or exchange a meter or to re pair or renew service. How ever, if a visitor calls unan nounced to check appliances and says he works for NI-Gas, a homeowner should be cautious. Company employes make such calls only on request. Also, a homeowner should not accept the statement that bills are be ing collected unless he knows his payments have been delin quent. "The identification card is the best safeguard," he said. "If a caller does not have one or if a customer is unconvinced, he should call the nearest NI- Gas office for verification." REDUCE INTEREST RATE Robert E. Coots, Manager of the Federal Land Bank as sociation of Woodstock, an nounced a reduction of interest rate from 8.50 percent to 7.50 percent per annum. This re duction will be effective on all new loans closed on or after March 1, 1971. Also, the 7.50 percent rate will apply auto matically on April 1 to all borrowers having loans with 8.50 percent effective rate on the most current Variable Rate Loan plan. Certain other borrowers onprevious Variable Rate plans will have an op portunity to take advantage of the new, lower rate, provided they apply for the rate reduc tion.
