Marian Romps To 90-62 Win Over Huntley In Cary-Grove District by John Metzger In the first game of the Cary- Grove District basketball tour­ nament, Marian Central romp­ ed over Huntley by a score of 90-62. Huntley's defense was not strong enough to hold back Mar­ ian* s attack. Marian's whole team got a taste of tournament action as Coach Grover put in his subs and coasted through the fourth quarter. v Randy Jackson dominated the Hurricane scoring with 26 points, John Bolton had 16 and Jim Kiefer, starting in place of Gary Harrison who had been sick, played an excellent game and finished with 16 points. Tom Kalsow was high man for Huntley with 19 points. All proceeds of the game are earmarked as a scholar­ ship fund in memory of Fred Custardo. Custardo, victim of a tragic accident that claimed his life, played for both the Bears and the Rifles. He served for three years as a member of the Bear taxi squad and, in his last two seasons, directed the Lake County eleven to two con­ secutive division titles. An athletic scholarship will be established in his name at the University of Illinois, the alma mater of Custardo. The Spikers finished the season with a victory over Imman­ uel Lutheran of Crystal Lake who had only been defeated once in the past six years.
