TB Association Annual Meeting Set March 24 PAGE 9-PLAINDAELER FRIDAY, MARCH 12, I9JI A report to the community on the care and treatment of to day* 8 tuberculosis patients will highlight the annual dinner meeting of the DuPage-Mc- Henry Tuberculosis and Res piratory Disease association March 24. The public is in vited to the event, which will be held at Nordic Hills Coun try club near Itasca, accord ing to M. Kendall Bird, first vice-president. Otto L. Bettag, M.D., medi cal director of the DuPage TB Care and Treatment board lo cated in Glen Ellyn, will be the featured speaker. A ipember of the American college of Chest Physicians and serving on its board of regents, Dr. Bettag also is president of the Ill inois Association of TB Care and Treatment boards and is familiar with the operating pol icies of county sanatorium boards throughout Illinois. As in most other counties throughout the state, the TB association in McHenry county sponsored a referendum which made possible the tax-sup ported McHenry County TB Care and Treatment board. "The welfare of TB patients has always been of concern to the Christmas Seal agency," said Bird, Who is from Crys tal Lake. "Today, we hear ru mors of a sanatorium here or there downstate which might be closed, and we think the public should know what facil ities are left and what the needs of patients really are." Mrs. Helmuth Thurow, Hunt ley, is a member of the nom inating committee whose report will preceded the election of officers and members of the sixty-fjve member board for terms of one year. Mrs. Arnold Chesak, also of Huntley, is co- chairman of the dinner meet ing arrangements. Reservations for the din ner meeting must be made by March 22 with Mrs. Evelyn Williams of the TB associa tion's Woodstock office. County Invests $140,517 In E-H Bonds McHenry county residents purchased a total of $140,517 in series E and H Ujfdted States savings bonds in January, ac cording to Donald J. Still, Wood stock, county chairman of the savings bonds committee. Illinois sales were over $1 million a day for a total of $30,810,434, according to Clar ence S. Sochowski, market di rector of the Treasury savings bonds division. This is an in crease of 8.1 percent over the same month last year. Sales were the highest in twenty-four months and repre sent 7.2 percent of the national total which was $430,000,000. January sales were 9.8 percent of the state's 1971 dollar goal of $313,600,000. "Substance" Sunday Topic For Church Rite The spiritual nature of each individual's genuine worth will be emphasized at McHenry Christian Science church ser vices Sunday. One of the Scriptural selec tions in the Lesson-Sermon on "Substance" is from James: "If ye fulfill the royal law ac cording to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self, ye do well." Supporting commentary from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy includes this citation: "Take away wealth, fame, and social organizations, which weigh not one jot in the balance of God, and we get clearer views of Principle. Break up cliques, level wealth with hon esty, let worth by judged ac cording to wisdom, and we get better views of humanity." All are invited to visit Chris tian Science society, Lincoln road and Eastwood lane. Ser vices begin at 10:30 a.m. VISIT CONGRESSMAN Ninety-eight farmers from 88 Illinois counties visited their U.S. senators and representa tives in Washington, D.C., this past week to get support for Farm Bureau's national legis lative proposals. Pictured, from left, are U.S. Rep. Rob ert McClory, 12th Congression al district; Marvin Krucken- berg, Mundelein, Lake county Farm Bureau director; and John Kooistra, Woodstock, McHenry county Farm Bureau director. GOOD SAMARITIAN Scenes like this may well be only a memory for 1971, but the generous heart of this pretty young lady and others in her Brownie Scout troop will not soon be for gotten. The troop of which she is a member is among many who took their turn in weekly feeding of the community's wild duck popu lation. Seriously applying herself to the task on one of the very cold days of the past month is Nancy Buch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buch of 3406 W. Washington street. Sunday Masses: 10:00 a.m. Confessions: First Sunday of each month, before Mass Father .John Strzalka Pastor mmm They were the best act at the annual amateur night of the Church Youth Group. The audience loved them--not only their parents and their friends' parents, but all the other folks, too. More important is what it did for the boys themselves. Learning to work together, enjoying every minute of rehearsal, perfecting talents they hardly knew they had . . . and doing it all as part of the youth pro gram of their church. But don't miss the "dig" they gave the rest of us when they named their group. Too many youngsters today have the impression that we consider theirs a hopeless generation. The truth of the matter is that most of American youth belongs to the finest generation our country has yet raised. While you and I are reading and hearing about the "wild" minority, our churches are work ing quietly and effectively to mold the faith and character of tomorrow's citizens. opyright 1971 Keister Advertising Service, Inc., Strasburg, Virginia Scriptures selected by the American Bible Society Sunday Job 11:13-18 Monday Tuesday Proverbs 14:27-32 Wednesday Lamentations 3:22-26 Thursday Romans 12:6-18 Friday Ephesians 1:15-20 Saturday Ephesians 4:1-8 Proverbs 10:22-28 mlM+Ms I Chain 0'Lakes Evangelical Covenant Church 4815 N.
