Wfc would ilike to get married but? our parents do not approve. Fred had to stop his college because he did not have the money to con tinue but he has a job at the filling station. I have told my parents that I could get a job and what the two of us could make would support us but they do not agree. I am a freshman in col lege and make good marks and they think I should finish my education. What do you think about this situation?-- D. B.--Del. Answer: , You should be thankful that your parents are able to pay for you to get an education for it will mean that, in years to come, if? you have to support yourself, a sick husband or little children that you will be able to get a much better paying job than you would if you had only finished high school. It seems a pity that Fred had to stop school on account of finances as there are so many scholarships available for ambitious boys. However, if he is a person who will work hard and take advantage of ^opportunities that come up he PAGE 3-PLAINDEALEJ^FRIDAY, MARCH 19, .1971 may become a successful busr iness man. My advice to you is to con tinue your education. This will give him the chance to save his money and take advantage of any chance to advance. All men are not suited for a liberal arts education and Fred could probably get in some courses at TEC of work he is interested in. I had an aunt who always said the first thing she looked for in a husband was that he should be a good provider." While this is important, I think there are many other things that are equally important. It means a lot to have a mate you can depend on, a man who is con siderate and who is unselfish-- a person who thinks of your welfare and reputation instead of being self-centered. My husband and F were en gaged several years before marriage because he was stud ying to be a lawyer and I taught school in - another state for two years of that time. We re mained true to each other and so can you and Fred if you are truly in love. Loui sa ' I Address your letter to Louisa, P.O. Box 532 Orangeburg, S.C.29115 "When the kids are having- an absolute blast, nothing' short of a rope around the neck will convince them that it's time to break for something to eat. So mom, why fight it? Next time the kids scoot off to the toboggan run, the sledding hill, or skating pond, pack 'em food to tote along. Make it hot 'n' hearty . . . snow sports and nippy air are the perfect combo to create roaring appetites. There is no question that the burden of the taxpayer is increasing constantly. The State of Illinois has recently inaugurated the state income tax and relieved us of the personal property tax. What does this mean to School District 156? 1. Less income from personal property tax. 2. No increase to the school district in taxes derived from the state income tax. 3. No increase in state reimbursement to our local schools. Therefore, in spite of our paying state income tax, the school is actually worse off than before. To help our schools we must ask the state to increase reimbursement of our tax money for education. As citizens it is up to us to urge our legislators to consider more seriously the plight of our school systems and impress on them that we are not going to be~ satisfied with a mediocre education for our children. Lobbying for state money is a long and tedious process ind won't you help us with our problem. In the meantime, let us give District 156 the money to continue to provide our children with a good education. ACT NOW: 1. Vote YES for the high school referendum on March 20th. 2. Let your legislators know that you feel the State of Illinois needs to re-evaluate the state education formula presently in effect, so that school districts receive back a proportion of the state income tax we are all paying. 3.
