Reser vations may be made with Elvina Latimer at 385-2835. What is the governor's safety program"? Mrs. Latimer, president of Region I. explains there are still four major areas where the state of Illinois is not in compliance with the sixteen standards issued by the National Highway Safety bureau. One of the most important of these is the "implied consent law" to provide testing for drivers charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. It has been proved that more accidents occur because of drinking drivers than any other cause. "Implied consent" also protects the sick since a driver may be afflicted with one of over sixty diseases bearing the same symptoms as drunken ness In a case like this the driver can receive the im mediate medical attention he needs. Why is Illinois one of four states not having an "implied consent law"? WED FIFTY YEARS Arthur and Louise Kussrath of 1415 Sunnyside drive, McHenry, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at Zion Lutheran church March 14. The couple was recognized, and a blessing and a prayer were part of the service in which Assistant Pastor Bauman officiated. Years ago, when the first talk wuz goin' about, regardin' mechanization o' the work, then bein' accomplished wi' elbow grease an' sweat, I began t' worry about the outcome. Sure enough, the thing's happened, an' the number o' people a needin' employment, greatly outnumber the jobs available. The machine age has taken over ! Then there's the women in employment, an item we didn't need t' fret about fifty years ago, as the ones a workin' in jobs, outside the home, were the widows an' ones wi' problems o' feedin' the families. A youngun, right out high-school could git a job, an' help earn somethin' t' further the education, if desired. We must admit that life is a sight easier, these days, but where is all the time we thought the families'd have fer District I Garden Clubs In Annual Meet District I of The Garden Club of Illinois, Inc., will hold its annual meeting and luncheon at the Kaskaskia hotel, LaSalle, Thursday, April 15. The Illinois Valley Garden club of Peru will be the hostess club. Robert W* Elich of Park Ridge will present "Autumn in Japan," a delightful one-hour colored motion picture of a five- week trip throughout Japan. He will show his trip, made in the fall especially to see the spectacular chrysanthemum shows and chrysanthemum bonsai. There are scenes of busy Tokyo and Osaka and other important cities; scenic national parks; famous Japanese gardens; a visit to a shrine on the national children's holiday, showing the children in their colorful costumes. This is a bright and happy film recommended very highly. Mr. Elich has combined his hobbies of photography, gar dening, and travel to produce these films He is a member of the Men's Garden club of North Shore, Royal Horticultural society, and Accredited Horticultural Judge of Men's Garden Club of America. The McHenry Garden club is a member of District 1. t'getherness. There wuz more o' that in the days gone by, seems t' me. T' my way o' thinkin', the way folks live these days, tend t' keep 'em farther apart; you go your way an' I'll go mine, sort o' attitude, 'cause everybody wants t' do his or her "THING". Mostly it turns out that they don't really want t' do anythin', an' then turn on the "Establishment", that makes it possible fer the parents an' others, t' feed 'em. They don't have any regard fer money, but they admit t' findin' it purty useful when it pervides somethin' fer the stomach. I been a grievin' 'bout the way things wuz a goin', fer too many years. It's all a turnin' out like I expected, 'an' if Grandpa Radtke wuz alive, he'd say the same, 'cause we used t' talk about it all, forty years ago, an' until the time he went t' his reward, he used t' git mighty upset 'bout the way things wuz a turnin' out. Nobody 'd listen, then, when somethin' might h' been done about it. Now we're stuck wi' the big snow-ball, a gittin' bigger an' bigger all the time. One o' these days it's a goin't' break up, and we'll all be engulfed in the flood o' despair. Every livin' thing, in this world has t' work t' survive. It ain't fair t' institute machines t' take the natural labor from folks, willin't' do it. vMan thinks he's so smart, but *TOL' MOM NATURE" 's a lot smarter an' man'11 never beat her, mark my word.
