Afternoon r EARL WALSH , it So I Hear ^5_L_SP0RTS editorj Talk about frost on the pumpkins. There was ice covering Boone Creek Monday morning and the ducks had to skate. it was nice to hear the good things Coach Day had to say about his boys. They are a bunch of good fellows who gave their best Their coach says so. Alex Justen is still excited after watching the game at Madison last Saturday, "43 seconds!", says Alex. That's just what it took for the Badgers to pull one out of the coals against Purdue. If you think we are plugging that football game next Sun day -we are! Tom Burke and Pat (liis little colleen) saw the Bears lose to the Packers Sunday. Looked like the Bears were playing their Cubs in that game. McHenry grads will play host to Marian grads at 2 p.m. at McCracken Field. The players will have a lot of fun out of the game, but will play hard to win. Proceeds will be turned over equally to the athletic depart ments of the schools. Met Coach Bill Day and remarked that it must be relaxing to have the MCHS football season end. He sur prised us by saying he wouldn't mind a couple of more games. We suggested that one of the high school classes set up a coffee stand for the game. It may be a chilly day. Coffee or not, put on your long ones and join the crowd. There is bound to be a lot of enthusiasm. Coach Day had a successful season so maybe that helps a coach's frame of mind. We had the list last week of all the boys and girls -- 102 strong. But the copy was too weak (blue) to photograph and too long to set. So -- we had it typed in black ink Shop Foreman Dick now says he can photograph it, reduce the size and print it in full in this issue. Like coaches, sports editors have their problems, too. (But, for a right guy like you. "Hutch", we will do our best). What happens when you're offered $18,000 for your $24,200 pile of ashes? You take it if you haven t increased your home insurance to keep pace with inflation. This is the kind of problem you could face if you bought and insured your home for $18,000 in 1963 See me to find out if your home is insured for its full value. I'll tell you about a low-cost State Farm Homeowners Policy that Will insure your home for all it's worth ... and keep it that way with automatic Inflation Coverage. He used to keep the nag in his Uncle William Welch's barn in back of the Cristy House (kindergarten on Waukegan St .) right next to our Dad's horse barn. We can vouch that Tom had his eye on Ellen Spencer back in High School days, but can't remember if he did his courtin' with horse and buggy. The Warriors fine play, especially in the first half showed through as they rolled to a 22-0 shutout victory over the Warhawks^ The victory gave the Warrior* a 6-2 record for the season. This won-lost record is the best any M.C.H.S. gridders have put forth since 1958. However, their efforts provided the Warriors only a third place finish in the tough NSC behind Crystal Lake and Barrington who finished with identical 7-1 records in a tie for first place. The Warriors opened the scoring in the first quarter on this cold and blustery day as Senior Mike Stark busted through the Warhawk defense for the games first score. The extra point failed but the Warriors had the lead 6-0. The Warriors scored twice more in the second quarter as Ron Miller passed to Don Prazak and Bob Habich for TDs. Both extra points were good and the Warriors went ahead 22-0. The second half saw the weather take control of the game as both clubs found the ball hard to handle. The Warrior effort was highlighted by several per formances. Junior halfback Roger Ludwig who was hampered by an ankle injury in midseason showed top form as he rushed 12 times for 79 yards. Senior defensive linebacker John DeCicco also gave a fine performance as he led the always tough Warrior defense with tackles and one aerial theft. N. Athletes „ W Away K Coach Day pointed out the fine defensive play of Mark Hoffman, Jim Hurckes, Dennis Hovseth, Randy Mauch, Dave Carlson, Phil Maurer and Mike Ruemelin as keys to the Warrior victory. Only once did the Warriors allow the Warhawks to drive the ball. The Warriors killed that drive on the five. As all the victories have been this season, this was again a team victory for the Orange and Black. Congratulations, Warriors, on a line, fine season. Your school and community are proud of you.
