TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 1946) Among the most recent to celebrate were Mr and Mrs. William Oeffling of Johnsburg who were married Nov. 6, 1890, at St. John's church, Father Mehring officiating. In 1940, their golden wedding an niversary year, the couple was honored by a dinner for relatives and open house for their many friends. It was a big nigl.t for the young folks. Wednesday and Thursday, when Halloween was observed in McHenry with customary celebration. On Wednesday night a large group of youngsters of grade school age enjoyed a skating party at the local rink Responsible for this pre Halloween treat were four local residents, Roy Kent, Roy Miller, Bob Devore and Dr. Edmund Lowe The following night, 300 children in the same age group were treated by local businessmen to a movie at the local theatre, the show being "God is My Co-Pilot". McHenry friends this week mourned the passing of Mrs. Emma DeCamp, 84. who died at her home on the river, south of McHenry Nov. 4 She had been seriously ill for only five days The very amusing three act comedy "The Wrong Professor" will be presented by the Junior class of the McHenry high school Nov. 15 Miss Helen Stevens who has been directing the very successful plays at the high school for many years is again in charge of this production One evening Mr. Sarner of McCullom Lake went to the basement to put coal in the furnace and he was confronted with a flying creature which turned out to be a full grown owl He and two neighbors caught it in a net and set it free outdoors. The McHenry Junior high school has released the first honor roll listing of the year with twenty-five on the "A" honor roll. A charter has been granted by the state to Gordon Corp., 16 Mehring avenue, McHenry, to conduct a business engaged in This Weekend Marian Central Catholic high school will present "Barefoot in the Park" Nov. 19 and 20. Neil Simon's comedies are world famous -- "The Odd Couple", "Plaza Suite," but his first major comedy "Barefoot in the Park" offers unique roles to actors and a variety of challenges to a production crew. The students at Marian Central are working toward opening night Friday. Nov. 19 The stage manager is Tom Uttich, assisted by Glen Wielgus, Cathy Olszak, Denise Olszak, John McAndrews and Marty Palmer. The lighting will be designed by Bruce Beiers and Mike O'Donnell, assisted by John Zimmermann. Make-up will be directed by Rita Stabrowski and Mary Kay Fischer Properties are being gathered by Debbie Landre, Marilyn Johnson and Glen Wielgus The set construction consists of a unit setting of the New York fifth floor apartment that Corie has just painted, no furniture has arrived; but in Act II there is a dramatic change in the tiny one-room flat. The stage crew has limits in size and depth, but they have solved the problem well by a triangular patterned set design executed by Stephen Fabis, a theatre arts major at St. Mary's college in Winona, Minn. Gerald Fabis, is the director of "Barefoot in the Park". He has also directed "Anything Goes," "Our Town," and the last Marian production of "My Fair Llady." There will be two per formances Friday and Saturday. Tickets are available at the door. Curtain time is 8 p.m. the designing, developing and manufacturing of tools, dies, jigs and fixtures for the plastic and metal fabrication in dustries.
