Marian GAA Calendar Of Under the enthusiastic- leadership of Sherry Carlson, Advisor, the Marian Central Girls' Athletic Association is bi'sily planning many events for the coming year. The girls are currently meeting twice a week during the activity period during which time they Plans Events are earning the necessary points for the GAA award through participation. The girls enjoyed a big "splash" on November 8 when I hey went swimming at the Woodstock high school pool. The girls played many games, including water polo, and greatly enjoyed the company of their friends. The girls who attended were also awarded nine points. Archery was the first sport of the school year for the GAA and that was followed by a unit of touch football. During the school's activity period, line soccer and relays are the order of the day. Volleyball and gymnastics are next on the calendar of GAA activities. Many extra-class activities are planned and they include the following: Mother-daughter bowling (Jan. 16), Student- Faculty game (March 15), "Nite-In" (March 24), Father- Daughter Play Day (April 23), and GAA Banquet (May 10). Serving GAA as president for the 1971-'72 school year is Patti Amore from Solon Mills. Backing up Pat as officers are Marge Boarini (Vice- President), Jan Dwyer (Treasurer), Chris Thelen (Secretary), and Julie West- phal (Point Chairman). Wise men learn from fools, but never vice-versa. To the swing of "Quoth the Raven" Bob Seaton composed this amusing poem: "Bob - AND THE 'PIDDLY' RACE" Once I ran a race -- so dreary That I wandered -- weak and weary And Pain came rushing to my feet which before -- had been so fleet Therefore I soon craved some rest But I didn't stop -- for I'm the BEST!!!! On I plodded -- knee joints cracking Once again -- pain came attacking My body now cried out for rest But I did not falter - I'm the BEST!!!! On I sprinted - down the trail Sure my body could not fail Feeling now my sure - strong - stride My eyes light up with fires of pride. Up ahead there looms a HILL!!! The last Huge bulwark against my will This last - and greatest -- barrier • The greatest challenge -- for the greatest Harrier!!!! I feel the fires of victory kindling And now -- again - I take First Place In still another "Piddly" race The fans all ask - Was it a TEST99"? "Of course not - Mister - I'M THE BEST!!!! Bill DeVries wants to trade his Ron Santo for our Bill Melton. Remember, that old song, Bill? "You can have her I don't want her She's too fat for me." Now that the Cub fans have Leo Durocher back as manager, they won't have to come up with another excuse for not winning the pennant in '72. All the Cubs and Durocher need are two outfielders, a catcher, a bull pen -- and a prayer. Notice that Cathy Boro bowled a 217 game in a whoppin' 581 series with the CD of A girls. Pat Ruemelin had a 215 game. Those gals are good. And Sam Tomasello bowled a game of 84 pins. The girls couldn't use him on their team. THAT BABY ---- That darling baby pictured in this corner last week was none other than Harry Conway Should have had two pictures -- THEN and NOW -- just to show what the wear and tear of 50 years will do. Wonder where we got the picture, Harry? We have a scouting system.
