Spirit Week Observed At County College "Sometimes in Winter," the homecoming dance, is spon­ sored by the Student Govern­ ment of McHenry County college. It is part of "Spirit Week," Dec. 13-18. Activities of "Spirit Week" include a Beauty-and-the-Beast contests, a King and Queen contests, Games Day, Tag Day, President's Day (honoring Dr. James R. Davis), and Deck the Halls. Saturday, Dec. 18, the Fighting Scots basketball team will play Harper college at 2:30 p.m. in Crystal Lake high school gym. Saturday evening a dinner- dance will be held in the Windsor ballroom of The Ab­ bey, Fontana, Wis. A buffet supper will be served at 7 p.m. and dancing will be from 9-1 a.m. . The dance is open to all M.C.C. students, faculty, staff and alumni. - Plans Progress For January Dinner Dance Plans progress for the dinner dance and cocktail hour, a benefit to be held Jan. 9 at the McHenry Country club for the McHenry Area Rescue squad. Featured on the program will be the Lamplighters sextet, a group of talented young per­ formers who came into the Duane F. Haak To Take Bride December 19 Mr. and Mrs. John Bulthuis of Lakewood, Crystal Lake, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter, Cheryl Ruth Eckert, to Duane F. Haak, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Haak of Wonder Lake. Miss Eckert is a 1969 graduate of Crystal Lake Community high school. Her fiance graduated from McHenry high school in 1965 and served in the Marine corps for two years. The wedding will take place Dec. 19. Special Turkey Stuffing A plump, beautifully browned turkey is the highlight of many festive dinners, but often it is the stuffing that distinguishes the holiday bird Today's Sausage-Apple Stuffing is an old fashioned corn bread dressing delightfully seasoned with onion and sage. V/hen planning your traditional holiday dinner, be sure to include this exceptionally good stuffing for the turkey. SAUSAGE-APPLE STUFFING For one 10 to 12-lb. turkey plus a l-Vfc-qt. casserole One pan corn bread, crumbled* 8 slices regular sliced white bread, lightly toasted and cubed 2 teaspoons salt 8 teaspoon pepper 1 teaspoon sage 1 lb. bulk pork sausage meat 2 cups chopped onion Zz cup butter or margarine 2 cups chopped apple "t-cup chicken or turkey stock 2 eggs, beaten One 10 to 12-lb. turkey Combine crumbled corn bread, bread cubes, salt, pepper and sage. Fry sausage until red color disappears crumbling with fork. Drain on absorbent paper. Add to bread mixture. Lightly saute onion in butter. Add to bread mixture with apples. Stir in stock and eggs. (Add more stock for more moist dressing.) Toss to blend well. Stuff into neck and body cavities of turkey. Truss. Roast according to standard roasting directions. Cook extra dressing in ungreased covered 1-Vfe-qt. casserole in preheated slow oven (325°F.) about 1 hour. °CORN BREAD Makes one 9-inch corn bread l -Zz cups enriched corn meal Zz cup sifted all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder Zz teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons sugar 1 egg. beaten 1 cup milk Z* cup vegetable oil Heat oven to very hot (450°F.). Sift together corn meal, flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add egg, milk and oil. Pour into greased 9-inch square baking pan. Bake in preheated oven (450°F.) 20 to 25 minutes.
