And we hope those fish are well packed in dry ice before shipping. A card we had to look at twice came from Mayme Buss with the following verse: "Am trying my best to climb that stair And hope Saint Peter will meet me^there." Everybody is complaining about all the rain except the boys who plow snow from our streets. The Warriors are aiming for a double header victory this weekend. Tonight they host Zion-Benton and Saturday night Antioch travels here for a non- conference game. PLAINDEALER PHOTO Larry says he didn't leave them behind through forget- fulness as our informer told us. There was something about Canada laws. We like the first story better. One of our nice helpers plucked the following from Tom Arden's "Backfence Gossip" column in the "Sacramento Bee" out in California. Many of you will remember Jim Jones, A former McHenryite and McHS athlete. Jim not only talks "Clean Streams" -- he works at the job. Trust Tom Arden won't mind us using his story way out here in Illinois: More than ever, Jim Jones of 5828 South Grove Drive, Citrus Sometimes the joint of two pieces of metal welded solidly together is stronger than the metal itself. An excellent team defensive effort was the key to the Warrior victory. The effort was best illustrated in the last 4 minutes of the 3rd quarter and the first 2 minutes of the 4th quarter when the Warriors held the 'Cats' to 5 points in this 6 minute stretch. In the mean time the Warriors scored 24 points as the score went from 36-28 to 60-33. The Warriors man-to-man pressure defense was their best effort of the young season. Individually Jim Hurckes and Ron Miller sparkled with their fine efforts as they held their men well below their averages. Don Prazak, Gary Eenner and Mark Bentz took command of the backboards as they combined for 31 rebounds between them. The Warriors also exhibited a balanced of fense as 4 players scored in double figures and 2 others scored 9 points. Gary Eenner's fine play also should be men tioned. Warrior fans know that Eenner has been hampered by bad knees in preseason practices and early season games. If his fine play con tinues Warrior fans will have a lot to cheer about. The Warriors scored an impressive Victory Friday, but at times seemed To lack that "Killer instinct", that is they didn't take advantage of Libertyville miscues. The 'Cats' turned the ball over to the Warriors 24 times but the Warriors returned the favor 21 times. Further, the Warrirors passing was poor at times. The continued improvement of the Warriors gives fans much to look forward to. The next conference encounter will be Eriday night at Buckner Gym at West Campus as the Warriors take on a tough young Zion Benton club. • BOX SCORES Turnbire Kieny Leon Jones, R. Muhlenpol Total 7 6 20 0 0 Heights, is convinced he is on the right track in vigorously fighting for an adequate flow in the American River down stream from Nimbus Dam. Jones, president of the Save the American River Association (SARA), and structural dynamicist at the Aerojet Liquid Rocket Co., was fishing from a raft in the American River with his 8- year-old son, Mike, and had the experience of a lifetime. Mike caught a salmon and the fight was on. After a long battle in which the raft was pulled every which way, the youngster landed his fish. A beauty. A 23-pounder. "It made me even more obsessed with the idea of protecting the American," Jones muses. "It was the kind of experience that cannot be had anywhere else. I just hope when Mike gets as old as I the American River will still be the river it is today and he has the thrill I have had in seeing a son proudly catch his first big fish. "In no way can you put a dollar and cents value on such an exhilirating experience. No way." Buchert, Owner HUNTER COUNTRY CLUB Richmond, III. 678-263 Ever Wonder What Skiing Is All About? by Fred Kusch After their convincing win over Libertyville the night before the Warriors came home to the friendly confines of Buckner Gym to do battle with the Mundelein Mustangs. The outcome was a thrilling Warrior victory in overtime 66- 63. The Warriors overcame a real good big tough physical team. Although they were outrebounded 56-53 for the game the Warriors were ahead in "bounds" in the crucial 2nd half and OT. period. The Warriors played a hustling aggressive zone defense which caused 21 turn-overs and kept Mundelein off-balance the entire ball game. Don Prpzak gave a fine individual effort as he scored 15 points and pulled down 20 big rebounds. Mark Bentz also was outstanding as he pulled down 14 rebounds and scored 15 points. Jim Hurckes and Rog Ludwig made clutch scores and key passes in the overtime period. All in all it was a real gutsy team victory. The victory was great but again the Warriors didn't take advantage of turnovers, their offense was erratic and their ball handling left something to be desired. Continued hustle will change these errors however. Remember fans the game tonight at Buckner Gym West campus when the Warriors take on the always tough Zion Benton Zee Bees.
