They are most prevalent in winter and spring. To most people the com mon cold is only a minor disorder that is often regard ed lightly and left to cure itself. Yet it is one of the most dangerous and baffling problems that confronts sci entific medicine today. We know that colds are conta gious, and that they often grow to epidemic piopor- tions. Children are particularly susceptible to colds, as they lack the resistance of older people. The running ears, mastoid complications and other serious chronic dis eases which afflict children frequently have their incep tion in colds. Taking colds is an evi dence of lowered vitality. The chronically tired person whose diet is ̂ inadequate, who goes on insufficient sleep and is irregular in his habits is an inviting host for cold germs./fconsequent- ly he catches cold easily and finds it difficult to throw off. Don't leave the / cold to cure itself. There are many sufferers from chronic sinus itis, bronchitis, mastoiditis and other respiratory dis orders, all on account of the neglected cold. JEANNE ELIZABETH STENBERG ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT - Mrs. Eleanor Stenberg of 26 Hawley court, Grayslake, announces the engagement of her daughter, Jeanne Elizabeth, to Russell Hannula, son of Mrs. Zoila Hannula of Houghton, Mich. The wedding will take place the end of January. Miss Stenberg teaches music in the schools of District IS, McHenry. 1 skirts, short or ankle length are smart. Corduroy is being used in paisley or floral designs for skirts and coats--skirts are used with jersey tops which cling to the body. Split levels in clothes have become quite popular this season. There is still much controversy over their effect on water systems. Until it is conclu sively cleared up, select those de tergents with low phosphate con tent, or use substitutes.
