WILLIAM HADDICK Honor Sorority Member With Rose Degree Pi, Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority met- Monday evening at the home of the president, Mrs. Dale Sprouse, when Mrs. William Haddick was honored with the impressive formal candlelight "Order of the Rose Degree". This degree is bestowed on an exemplary member who has served loyally in Beta Sigma Phi chapters for at least fifteen years. Mrs. Haddick moved to McHenry in August, 1970, and has been Pi Alpha's treasurer. While in sorority, Mrs. Haddick has served as international registrar for the Nu Phi Mu in 1945-46; as president of Gamma Kappa, Ritual of Jewels president of Xi Epsilon Omicron, Exemplar chapter; and has held every office and chairmanship during her twenty-eight years in sorority in Rock Island, 111. Following the "Order of the Rose Degree" ritual, Mrs. Sprouse conducted the monthly business meeting. Mrs. Pearce Konold, past president, presented the chapter after fulfilling the international requirements with the official Plaindealer Photo Beta Sigma Phi International charter. The chapter was formed in McHenry in 1969 with members Mesdames Konold, Don Schutt, Leonard Siatta, Carl Grinstead, Dale Sprouse, William Haddick, Rich Howie, Alan White, Dave Service and Miss Adele Sabel signing the charter. Bob Bright conducted the discussion. Jan. 3, Mel Miller, an in­ structor at Harrison school, explained the school newspaper which is written by the students under his supervision. Bill Dicker, Boy Scout neigh­ borhood representative in Wonder Lake, presented the program and future plans of ij scouting in the area. Ap­ proximately 49 per cent of the boys in the area are par­ ticipating in either Cubs, Boy Scouts or Explorers. The Wonder Lake Scout troops are among the oldest in the county. It was also reported that there are two Brownie troops and two Girl Scout troops active on the east side of Wonder Lake. Plans are under way for a Boy Scout Camporee sometime in January. An inter-club with Crystal Lake Kiwanians is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 11, with Art Lau, Bob Myers, Bill Cristy and Bob Bright representing the Wonder Lake club. Special Weekend Program Planned For Area Couples A Marriage Encounter will be conducted at the Mother McAuley residence, DeKalb, the weekend of Feb., 11, 1? and 13. The Marriage Encounter is designed to give married couples the opportunity to examine their lives together during a weekend program conducted by a team of three married couples and a priest. The Marriage Encounter is neither a "sensitivity" course nor is it a "group dynamic" program. The emphasis is on communication (conjugal dialogue) between husband and wife. Through a series of ideas on Christian Marriage presented by the team, an opportunity is given to a married couple to look at themselves and their marriage in an atmosphere that is Christ- centered, quiet and relaxed.
