Here & There In BUSINESS Illinois Bell Begins Work Of Burying Cable The signs of spring are slow to come this year. But Illinois Bell this week announced plans to provide one of the first signs in McHenry. Next week the company will begin to bury 4,600 feet of new telephone cable along the north side cf Illinois Route 120, west from Crystal Lake avenue, across Industrial drive and Ramble road, to Meadow Lane. "As the ground begins to thaw, we're ready to move full- force into another cable- burying season," explained Len Ferguson, telephone district construction super­ visor. "This cable project will be the first cf many in the warm months ahead, to provide for telephone growth in McHenry." He added that aerial cable a l o n g t h e r o u t e w i l l b e removed. "Placing cable underground helps beautify the community while it 'weatherproofs' telephone service," he said. More than 95 per cent of all Illinois Bell cable is installed underground. McHenry Boy Earns Junior Engineer Badge There is a new certified Tinker toy engineer in McHenry. He is Charles Briggs cf 814 Anna belle street. Charles constructed a Dutch windmill with his Tinkertoy components and submitted a sketch of his creation to Tinkertoy, Evan- ston. In return, Charles received a Junior Engineer's certificate. Charles may earn more for his efforts, however. Like all youngsters who submit drawings, he is eligible for the National Scholarship award program. First prize is a $500 savings bond.
