Gus Freund was the locker room coach at half time. Gus would tell each player that the third quarter is when we take 'em. The whole team was good on defense and knew just how to shift to stop the other team. The whole team played every game to win. It is nice to be remembered after a period of about 50 years. Sincerely, Gordon Fifty years? Yep. Coach Stringer came to McHenry in the fall of 1922. His championship team was in 1925. Speaking of 50 years, .maybe our class of '23 should have a reunion. There were only 12 in the class and several have been called from our midst. It's something to think about, you Old Timers. Guess everybody but Dick Hester remembered to turn the clock ahead Saturday night. Late Sunday morning Dick was still on "God's Time" as opponents called it when Daylight Saving was first proposed. Life is now complete. We narrated a style show last Thursday for a group of beautiful ladies. Men were there, too. QUOTES: A man never shows his character so plainly as by the way he portrays another's. Conceit is God's gift to little men. The greatest of faults is to be conscious of none. Every man should keep a fair sized cemetery in which to bury the faults of his friends. A man is as big as the things that annoy him A Unique. How can we be so lucky1 After lunch Friday, we planned a little rest with our McHenry High Girls Track Team sports page. The phone rang once -- the phone rang twice - and it rang again. Don Hoenes wanted to know if we had Channel 9 turned on. We did and the Cubs were winning 7 to 1 Don picked the right time to call since he must have had some anxious moments before his team beat Cincinnati 10-8. If that score had been reversed, we might (just might) have been tempted to call back and offer our sym pathy to Don. The Canes got edged out on a fine game. They went down to Driscoll on April 26 and were outscored, 5-4. The Canes got a good rally going in the 5th but that wasn't enough Ted Pitzen and Ray Thelen did a great job in the infield by producing 2 double plays. They could be the next Kessinger and Beckert combination. Thelen was also very helpful at the plate. The Canes come home on May 3 to play I.C., and then back on the road to St. Ed's on May 5. I hope the "Fighting Canes" find the "Friendly Confines" of Woodstock Park good to them as the parks of the Cubs and Sox had been for them.
