" Right now the side yard is my sons' world. Behind a picket fence, they roam the seas and sky in imagination, the sound of their voices reassuring me of their safety. It won't always be this way. Someday, they'll leave the back yard for ever, swashbuckling through a world of schools and camps, friends and parties. S* How strange it will be--not to guide their every footstep. Scardino said Miss Cary AMVlET will accompany h^m on several of his official visitations during the year. E EXISTENCE OF GOD The Bible nowhere attempts to prove or argue the existence of God. The book 6{ beginnings (Genesis) simply opens With the statement, "h/the beginning God ." There is not even a suggestion asto the oriein oiGod himself. To begin a life of faith, one must first accept as true ths^xistence of God. "But without faith it is impossible to please him (God): for he that cometb to God must believe that he is, and that he is the rewarderof them that diligently seek him," (Hebrews 11:6 KJV). The existence of God is a fact taken for granted by the writers of both the Old and the New Testaments. Though the Bible does not seek to prove God, there are many expressions of His nature. The Bible reveals God as a personality. He is called "the living and true God." His personality is revealed in what He does. ^ It is stated that God loves. "For God so loved the world..." (John 3:16) . The concept here is that God loves mankind. He is positively attracted to human beings. It is also expressed that God hates. The writer of the Proverbs explains, "These six things doth the Lord hate..." (Proverbs 6:16ff). Many persons would discount this aspect of the nature of God. They would teach that God is all love and there is no capacity for hate within the Divine Being. The Bible is explicit in revealing that God does hate. He hates "a proud look, a lying tongue hands that shed innocent, blood," etc. ' Another characteristic of*t|od is that He cares. The Apostle Peter wrote his Epistle to the early Christians who were suffering under severe persecution. His encouragement to them was to cast "all your care upon him; for hecareth for you." (I Peter 5:7) When we experience tragedy, difficulty or even persecution, we likewise are to "cast our care upon him." God also grieves. He must grieve at the slowness with which we learn to exercise faith. He grieves at our disregard for the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ. He grieves at our deliberate sinfulness. "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only.., evil continually, and it repented the Lord that he hadjnade man on the earth and it grieved him at his heart." (Genesis^jJ},6) Though the Bible does not seek to prove the existence of God, it gives itself to revealing how God works in the lives of men. There is always the necessity for faith to be involved in each revelation, but those experiences are absolute and discernable. Time and time again we are awakened to God's presence as Jacob was at Bethel, "Surely the Lord is in this place and I knew it not." (Genesis 2816 KJV) Short Time To Deadline For Truck Licenses Less than two weeks now remain for owners of trucks and other second division vehicles licensed on a fiscal year basis to obtain their 1972- 1973 license plates, Secretary of State John W. Lewis said this week. The deadline is midnight Saturday, July 15, Secretary Lewis said, and emphasized that it is a deadline for having the plates mounted on the vehicles, not merely applied for. Over-the-counter outlets of the Secretary of State's office in Springfield and Chicago will remain open all day the final two Saturdays before the deadline. Julv 8 and July 15, Lewis said. In Chicago, they are located at 5301 West Lexington street, 5401 North Elston avenue and 9901 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., drive. The hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. POLITICAL CDBHER Mrs. Dan Walker of Deer- field, wife of the independent Democratic candidate for Governor, will be making visits in McHenry County Friday, July 7. From 1 to 2:15 she will be hosted at a coffee to be held at the Barbara Lezak home, 6610 W Hillside, Crystal Lake. From 2:30 to 3:45 Mrs. Walker will be a guest in the home of Ann Hecht, 3335 Bull Valley road, Woodstock. All interested persons are invited to attend either or both of these social events. "~~~The Walker family moved to their curiynt home in Deerfield in 19Si7r They have seven children, Kathleen, Dan Jr., Julie, Robbie, Charles, Margaret and Will. 'N FOOD! POISONING Basic rulies of cleanliness, proper cooking and refrigeration must be observed in preparation of foods for picnics if food poisoning is to be avoided, cautions Dr. Franklin D. Yoder, public health director. Yoder said cold cuts, poultry, eggs, dairy products and salads are highly susceptible to disease- producing microorganisms. He recommended keeping food cool until it is served and promptly returning leftovers to the cooler when the meal in finished X.ABOR PAY W A S f i p s t o s s e n v e p Guettler's Service, Inc. 818 N.
