County Sheriff Heads Democrats For Ogilvie Arthur Tjterell, Democratic Sheriff of McHenry county, has announced he had accepted the chairmanship of a state-wide Democrats for Ogilvie com mittee. Tyrrell,' who announced formation of the committee at a press conference in Chicago, stated that the organization "will enlist members in every county in Illinois." The sheriff said he cannot support Daniel Walker because of Walker's views on law en forcement which "are abhorrent to every law en forcement officer in Illinois.£' He praised Governor Ogilvie • for "his proven record" in this crucial area and called on fellow Democrats "to overlook party labels in this election." Tyrrell stated, "I am a Democrat. And I intend to remain a Democrat. And I will continue to support other Democratic candidates. "But as a law enforcement official, I cannot support Mr Walker because of his position on law enforcement. "Mr. Walker's views-which are most clearly revealed in his summary "" and public statements on the so-called Walker Report - are abhorrent to every law enforcement of ficer in Illinois. His views betray an utter lack of un derstanding of when and how to exercise leadership in the prevention of lawlessness. "A firm stand must be taken to preserve the rights of the public. But it can be done without infringing upon the rights of any law-abiding citizen. "In contrast to Mr. Walker, Governor Ogilvie is a com petent public administrator who has a proven record in this crucial area. "As sheriff of Cook county he turned the sheriff's department into a professional police force...As Governor he has continued to place a 4 high priority on the needs of law enforcement. Governor Ogilvie has faced situations with a calm and disciplined firmness which has maintained law and order without the use of ex cessive force. "When I ran for sheriff of McHenry county, I promised the people that I would do everything possible to fight crime and to improve law enforcement. promised that my actions would be in the best interests of all the people. "I am keeping that promise by working for the re-election of Governor Ogilvie." One of the things that kills time in life is the ne cessity to beat around the bush ,and not come out and call a spade a spade. AH, SUMMER . . . You don't need a beach for a perfect summer day. Ingredients can be the sun, a pretty girl, a pool, and a springboard -- not necessarily in that order. This pretty lass relaxes beside a pool at Palm Springs, California.
