STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Draw Workers Together To Fight Fox Pollution "The Fox River: Today and Tomorrow" is the title of a symposium co-sponsored by McHenry County Department of Health and McHenry hospital, Oct. 10 and 11 at McHenry Country club. Drawing together the many organizations and individuals who have been working to correct Fox river pollution problems is the aim of the Symposium committee. The committee includes Edward F. Wilt, Jr., M.D., Richard A. Wissell, Robert J. Stein, M.D., Robert W. Layer, Dorothy J. Kelsey, Brian G. Koukoll, D.D.S., Kenneth V. Fiske and Rita K. Halvorsen. The program will begin Tuesday morning, Oct. 10, with a discussion of the "Fox River Today", an historical per­ spective and a detailing of watershed problems. A panel led by Kenneth V. Fiske, executive director, McHenry County Conservation district, will include Ralph C. Frese, Chicagoland Canoe Base; William McElwee, River Basin Planning, Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning commission; Elsie Steitz, member Lake County Regional Planning commission; and Robert W. Stein, M.D., pathologist at McHenry hospital, will present a panel detailing sources of pollution: the chemical, bacteriological, and sedimentary sources and their relative importance. Panelists include Ralph W. Evans, Water Quality section, Illinois State Water survey; Richard A. Wissell, Public Health administrator, McHenry County Department of Health; Eugene Theios, director, Department of En­ vironmental Health, Lake County Health department; and Robert Cheetham, geologist, River Basin Watershed Planning staff, Soil Conservation service, Madison, Wis. "Public Health and the Law" will be the last topic for discussion Tuesday afternoon. Richard A. Wissell, McHenry County Health Department administrator, will entangle the legal implications with the help of Robert J. Stein, M.D.; John Juergensmeyer, attorney- at-Law, sociologist; John Raber, sanitarian, McHenry County Department of Health; and Arthur Tyrrell, sheriff, McHenry county. A banquet will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday evening. The chief speaker will be Eric R. Brown, M.D., chairman, Department of Microbiology. Chicago Medical school. Dr. Brown will relate the incidence of fish tumors found in a polluted watershed (the Fox) as compared to non-polluted Canadian waters. Wednesday morning, Oct. 11, symposium participants will come together again to con­ sider the "Future of the Fox", led by Edward L. Marek.
