Reporter LAW FOR BRIDES Of special interest to the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness is the recent legislation which makes it mandatory for any prospective bride in Illinois who applies for a marriage license after Oct. 1, to have an affidavit from a physician stating that she has been tested for rubella immunity. The affidavit must be presented to the county clerk before he can issue a marriage license. Because rubella (German measles) often causes serious damage to an unborn child if the mother contracts the disease during pregnancy, this legislation represents an im portant step toward the elimination of rubella-related birth defects. These tragic birth defects include blindness, deafness and mental retar dation. hnough Salt If the salt from the oceans and seas were removed, it would form a 500 foot hi^h layer over all the Earth's land surface.
