GREEN STREET McHENRY EARL WALSH' The Warrior basketball team couldn't put it all together Friday night and lost an overtime tussle to Dundee. The visiting Cardunals showed a lot of hustle. They aren't extra tall. But, it was at the free throw line that they piled up points. So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR J free throw attempts. The Warriors hit 10 out of 16 shots. You have to make free throws, especially with the 1 and 1 rule. Mark Bentz was back in action after missing a couple of games. We thought the layoff got him off stride, but his 24 points show he was very much in the game. The Cards sank 25 out of 31 Roger Ludwig played the Charles Locldnger, (left), Woodstock, and Lloyd Jacobs, Hebron, share theipotyight at the McHenry County Farm Bureau banquet for Sports Festival participants last weekend. Lockinger was honored for his many years of service to the Softball program. Jacobs was naif ed the outstanding player on the All-County team for 1972. (DON PEASLEY PHOTO) LARRY LEAFBLAD JORDAN IM WEEKDAYS AT 9 15 A M NEW TIME the POPULAR Phone-Show on CALL 1220 dial I (312) 223-5555 (or 312-244-1220) first half the way he did most of last year. He was feeding in stead of shooting. Then he made two alert steals in the second half that made the Warriors look better. From our observation, Roger has to shoot if the Warriors are going to win. Knaack is another player who has to pop 'em in. He has the eye. Dundee's Rick Unruh has some great moves and was hard to guard as he scored 27 points. He's a good one. And only a Junior. They have a Schumacker on the Dundee team. Dundee without a Schumacker would be like the Johnsburg Tigers without a Freund. This advance talk about major league ball players striking again at the start of next season makes us sick. Most of those players had signed contracts before the season. We think they should have honored their contracts, then enter into new negotiations after the season. Such items as the season being too long - on that we agree. Nor do we blame the players for getting all the benefits possible. All we say is that if a fellow signs a con- stract, he should live up to the agreement. Had a real sociable time and a fine feast at the Plaindealer Christmas party Thursday night. Had our wife sitting on our right and "Brenda" on our left. How lucky can a guy get! Missed Lawrence Welk again this week. The Annual Christmas Concert was held Sunday night at West Campus. With a niece, Nancy Blake, performing, where do you think we were? Missed Lawrence but saw John Leighty direct a large group of high school musicians through a pleasing program. While we carry sports on this Northern Illini Bowmen's annual Christmas party will be held at the McHenry Legion on Thursday, Dec. 14, beginning at 8 p.m. The evening will begin with the regular meeting in cluding election of officers for 1973. After the meeting will be a pot-luck and dancing. Each member is to bring a gift for Santa's exchange. AN EASY ONE for Warrior Habich at he finds himself alone under the basket in the first quarter of the McHenry - Dundee battle. The Warriors are now 0-2 and travel to Libertyville Friday night looking for their first conference victory. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Warriors Lose Overtime Game To Dundee 67-62 By Dick Rabbitt The Dundee Cardunals, behind the free throws of Rick Unruh, defeated the McHenry Warriors in overtime Friday nite. The score was 67 to 62. Grabbing an early 6 to 2 lead and then again 10 to 6, the roof caved in on the Warriors. Dundee got hot and led at the quarter 19 to 12. Keeping that 7 » pt., spread throughout the 2nd 1 quarter, it seemed that the f» warriors would be content. But dt 1:45 they managed to pull within 3 pts., 27 to 24. Dundee Scots Fall To Kishwaukee 72-67 Kishwaukee College downed the McHenry County College cage squad by a 72 to 67 margin Tuesday evening at the Crystal Lake high school. The defeat marked the fifth straight time that the Scots have been on the losing aid of the score. Four Scots scored in double figures as Glen Bohart and Wes Wimus led the way with 14 counters apiece. Larry Lowrey contributed 12 points while Tom Desmond added 11. Bohart and Lowrey also led the rebounding with 11 each and Mike Tichenor grabbed 10. The lead see-sawed back and forth the entire first half with Kishwaukee grabbing a 2-point advantage, 29 to 27, at in termission. The Scots came right back and jumped in front 35 to 31 only to hit a real cold spell. page and both sports and monkey business in S.I.H., don't ever let us forget that our schools promote other equally important programs. The music department is real good. Congratulations, Director John, and all you fellows and gals who gave us an enjoyable Sunday night. The Scots fell behind 47 to 38 and then could never make up die difference. Although the defense looked far, McHenry could never put it all together on offense and shot a cool 34 percent on 27 of 79 shots from the field. Saturday afternoon, Dec. 9, will find McHenry once again seeking their first victory. Waubonsee will be the opponent and game time is 2:30 p.m. at the Crystal Lake high school fieldhouse. Unable to hit the basket and poor rebounding hurt the Warriors the first half. During the 3rd quarter the Warriors began to jell, and only trailed 45 to 44 going into the fourth period. With 7:53 remaining in the game Ludwig put the Warriors ahead for the first time since early in the game. Tonyan's basket with 6:20 remaining put the Warriors ahead 48 to 45. From that point on it was a personal contest between Mark Bentz and Uhruh. Bentz scored the last 12 points for the Warriors and Unruh had 11 for the Cards. At the end of regulation time the score was tied at 60 all. During the overtime it was all Dundee. Missed shots and poor passing on the part of the Warriors led to their downfall. On the other hand the ability to make free throws won the game for Dundee. They made 25 out of 31. The Warriors ac tually out-shot the Cards 43 percent to 42 percent, but managed to only make 10 out of 16 from the free throw line. Once again the Warriors fought an uphill battle. They really didn't start clicking until midway in the 3rd period. Let's get it altogether from the opening whistle on Friday at Libertyville. You're a better team than your record shows. McHenry lost ̂bat any Dnndee teammate that had pooiwriia of the ball received clooe-up view* of the Warriors as they pressured the Cardunalsjfor the ball.
