McHENRY FRESHMEN "A" SQUAD 1st row Terry Reilly - Coach Gary Gray, Tony Cristy, Jeff Boyer, Tom Ludwig, leilly, Greg O'Halleran. 2nd row - Harold Bruno, Craig County Civil Defense Advises On Snowmobiling Snowmobiling has become a tremendously popular sport in the last few years. Not only is it popular in the Northern areas of Illinois, but many families travel to the Northern States of Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota for snowmobiling weekends. John J. Shay, McHenry County Civil Defense Di rector, points out that the following basic equipment should be carried on snowmobiles: a compact First Aid Kit, an emergency fuel supply, a compass, a Topographical map of the area to be traveTed. Also, an extra drivebelt should be carried like a spare tire plus spark plugs with necessary tools for in stallation. CUP O'TEA According to Shay, carrying a light-weight block and tackle with 50 feet of y« inch nylon rope could mean the difference between abandoning your machine or continuing your trek if badly stuck. A hand-axe, hunting knife, waterproof container of matches and a small pan or kettle will become handy items if you should be stranded for any length of time^ Also, keep some tea bags in the emergency supplies. Black tea is more energizing than coffee for most people. Advise someone where you intend to go and what area you are likely to be in. If an emergency should arise such as a breakdown or becoming lost which requires existence under winter survival conditions the Freshmen Wrestlers Defeat Dundee 30-36 McHenry's young grapplers defeated a strong Dundee wrestling team on the final match. McHenry's young giant, 900 lb., Bill True, pinned his opponent in 3:26 to break a 30-30 tie. It was a pin or be pinned contest with every match, except two. Jim Murgatroyd (119 lbs.) won by a decision 6-4 and now has a 3 win, 1 loss record. Greg Thornton (138 lbs.) won on a pin, giving him a 3 win, 1 loss record to date. Tom Hutchinson also won by a P>n and staying undefeated with a 4 win - 0 loss record. McHenry's freshmen dual match record is 3 wins and 1 loss at this time. This is a creditable record considering that they have no previous wrestling experience as do > many of their opponents who have Junior high wrestling programs. McHenry has none. RESULTS 96 lbs., Dave Kennebeck, lost • pinned 1:25. 105 lbs., Rim Aberle, won by pin 5:44. 112 lbs., Rick Carlson, lost - pinned 3:37, 119lbs., Jim Murgatroyd, won - 6-4. MCHS Wrestlers Win Double Dual Meet Here Saturday By Dick Rabbitt In matches that were much closer than the score indicates, the Warriors won a double dual wrestling meet at West campus on Saturday afternoon. In the first match they defeated Geneva by a score of 28 to 19. It was 22 to 19 going into the final match, when heavyweight Pat Heald pinned Peterson to insure the victory. In the second match McHenry defeated Rockford Jefferson by a score of 31 to 19. once again it was close to the final match. Joe Dougherty, sophomore heavyweight, pinned Black of Jefferson to insure the victory. Congratulations are in order for a fine team effort. Some of these boys had to wrestle twice within an hour. Next meet is at Libertyville on Friday. Warriors let's skin those Wildcats. RESULTS McHenry, 28 vs. Geneva, 19. 98 lbs., Scanlin, McH. Pin Mason, Geneva; 105 lbs., M. Morreale, McH. This is vital to survival. Light a fire. This will keep you warm and attract the attention of rescuers mi the ground or in the air. BUILD SHELTER If a shelter is needed,&lt can be made with snow, poles, evergreen boughs, or anything that will break the wind. A hundred-foot circle tramped in the snow with paths radiating from the center like spokes in a wheel can be readily seen from a search plane during daylight hours. Evergreen boughs placed upright in the snow beside the paths are helpful. They will cast shadows on a sunny day. McHenry County Civil Defense has an information sheet on snowmobiling which is free for the asking. Call or write the office at Woodstock. Ranking Tomatoes!
