The locations named by Edison Chairman J. Harris Ward are located in the nor thern Illinois vicinities of Byron and Braidwood. The Byron site is located about 18 miles south west of Rockford, near the town of Byron in Ogle county, while the proposed Braidwood plant location is in Will county, about 21 miles southwest of Joliet. T w o l . i m i l l i o n k i l o w a t t pressurized water reactors ordered from the Westinghouse Electric corporation are to be located at each site, according to the electric company's plans. At the same time the two new plants will provide sources of clean energy for the nearly eight million people whose e l e c t r i c a l n e e d s w e m u s t meet." Total cost of the two projects, according to Mr. Ward, will be well in excess of $1 billion. New generation in both the Byron and Braidwood areas will be needed in the early 1980's in order to meet the projected electrical needs of Edison customers.
