Sophomore Five Drops > Two Games Over Weekend I By Dick Rabbitt Coach Gary Collin's sophomore cagers dropped a doubleheader last weekend. They dropped a heartbreaker to Barrington on Friday night 534o 52 and on Saturday were defeated by Dundee 49 to 32. The Barrington game was a thriller. Trailing most qf the way, the Warriors slowly crept upon the Baby Broncos. At the final buzzer a shot by John Dix was disallowed. This basket caused the Warrior defeat. It is the most difficult judgement call that an official has to make, according to the official. There were plenty of fans in the gym both Barrington and McHenry who thought it was a poor call. It was a tough break vthe young Warriors, but it l't slow them down in the 'Dundee game on Saturday night. ;In a slow game, with both teams missing shot after shot, the Warriors managed to stay even for three quarters. Then they just seemed to run out of gas. As a result the Cards outscored them 23 to 6 in the final period and went on to an easy 49 to 32 win. Defenders To Hold Regular Paper Drives A concern for the en vironment and the need for recycling usable refuse are in the forefront of the minds of many people these days. Newspapers make up a large portion of the recyclable refuse produced by ^families in McHenry daily, yet only a small percentage of the newspapers coming into McHenry ever finds its way to a recycling center. This is a fact which the McHenry County Defenders hope to correct. KIWANIS NEWS WONDER LAKE CLUB Kristine Guillermou, a pretty foreign exchange student from Louviers, Normandy, France, who is attending McHenry West campus, was guest speaker at the Feb. 5 meeting. She told of contrasts between her country and the U.S. She said that American students are virtually besieged by French students when visiting in France, with questions about America. She expressed surprise that her fellow students here were not more curious about French life. She also questioned whether it was the best thing that teachers here seemed over friendly with their students while teachers in France stress instead, academic learning. Miss Guillermou highly praised the social and club activities as well as the athletic programs at McHenry high. These were lacking at her home schools, she said. Art Christopher, Bill Cristy, Gene Bach, Bob Howe and Frank Stangl volunteered to attend the Wednesday night traveling gavel meeting of the Kiwanis club of McHenry to the club at Belvidere.
