Lakeland Park DOROTHY LENSE 385-6517 Coristruclori Of Sewer Project Begins In Area By the time you read this column, construction on the Lakeland Park sewer project will have already begun. Target date for completion of the project is April 1974. I, for one, am very glad that sanitary sewers for Lakeland Park are about to become a reality. The meetings held at the community house over the weekend were very well at tended. And many questions were answered. There will of course be some inconvenience as far as the roads are concerned. However, every effort will be made to keep these inconveniences to a minimum. There are some things that we Lakeland Parkers can do to help this project along. You may have noticed that markers have been placed at the location of the water shut-off which serves your home. Some of these metal markers have already disappeared. Please make sure that these are left where they were put. Also, the city is having difficulty finding all of these shut-offs, as some are covered with soil. If you know where it is in your yard, please mark it. If you have trees or shrubs planted in the easement in front of your home, it would be a good idea to move them. And then, it looks like it's going to be our collective responsibility to keep the neighborhood kids from pulling up the leveling stakes that the construction crews will be putting out. I understand that th£ stakes along the drainage ditctr-are constantly being pulled out and thrown in the ditch. The outcome of this project will be well worth any in convenience during the con struction. Copyright 1965, Dale Carnegie & Assoc., Inc. A farmer awoke one morning in the wee hours. He turned and tossed but he could not sleep because he was troubled. He was thinking about Old Sam, his old mule, out in the barn. Old Sam had been a faithful servant for many years. He got out of bed, put on his clothes and went out to the barn. There, in his stall, stood Old Sam. His head hung low, his knees were bent and his back was swayed, from the many long years of hard work. The farmer stepped up to Old Sam and gently slapped him on the back. He said, "Sam, for all these many years you have) been my faithful servant; you have worked very long and hard but those days are past. You will never have to work again as long as you live be cause I am going to retire you, Sam. You can go to the mea- the old abandoned well. Per haps Sam had fallen into it. He rushed to the old dry well and, sure enough, there in the bottom of the well stood Old Sam; his head hanging low and his tail switching from side to side. The farmer was bewildered. He could think of no way to get Old Sam out of the well, but he could not leave him there to starve, so he finally made a decision. He decided to get a shovel and just bury Old Sam in the well. He threw a shovel of dirt into the well. It fell on Old Sam's back. The mule just shook the dirt off and stepped on top of it. The farmer kept throwing dirt on Old Sam, but each time the dirt fell Old Sam shook it off and stepped on top of it. Along toward evening the dirt in the well rose near the top. Old Sam stepped up out of the well and dow and have all you want to casu?"J' walked across ^ eat and drink. From here on it mea w" is all on me." Sam was taken to the mea dow and, as the days passed, he seemed to enjoy his retire ment. Then, one day, he was missing. The farmer looked for Surely, we all experience setbacks and disappointments from time to time. The impor tant thing is how we face them. We can stand still and let the dirt of adversity overwhelm us, or we can shake it off our him in every corner of the mea- backs step on top of it and ge dow but no place could Sam be on enj0y the happiness of a found.
