Feb. 7,14,21,1973) For the third consecutive year, the Social Studies department at Marian Central Catholic high school is again involved in a weekly lecture program featuring local businessmen and government officials. The lecture series is coordinated by Hans Rokus, American Government in­ structor, and George Par- themore, Consumer Education instructor. The entire senior class is involved in the program which occurs every Friday for one hour. In the first semester the students have had presen­ tations by Rep. Robert McClory of the 13th Congressional district as well as a debate between Rep. Thomas Hanahan and Rep. Cal Skinner, Jr. Both of these programs featured some of the events occurring in Washington, Springfield, and McHenry county. Locally, Richard Wissell presented a lecture and slide -program concerning the McHenry County Health department and Dick Thomas spoke on behalf of the Wood- s t o c k E n v i r o n m e n t a l Education program. Sheriff Arthur Tyrrell addressed the seniors about local law en­ forcement and the drug education programs in McHenry County. Also, John Gorby made two presentations concerning the State's At­ torney's office in McHenry county. From the business world, three insurance agents, Doug Rudsinski, Loren Miller and Jim Keefe, appeared. Also, Paul Lowery, representative from the H & R Block offfice in Elgin, discusses the income tax area. For several weeks Mr. Voss and Mrs. Graves of the local U.A.W. and the Midwest Region Four U.A.W. presented a lecture and a movie. Hanahan will have the additional duty and honor of Assessment, Stock Broker,- Public Defender, Selective Service, Judicial System, County Board of Suupervisors, Aldermen-Mayoral System of Government, Law Day and Commercial Advertising. The flooding resulted in disaster declarations citing five nor­ thern Illinois counties -- DuPage, Cook, Kane, McHenry and Lake. Dwyer said 5,420 home loan applications for $16,138,139 were filed prior to a Dec. 31 deadline. Business loan ap­ plications totaled 205 for $4,080,740, he added.
