Tips For The Homemaker Community Calendar int>^^»^»t»»iwl»llfA-A tfc »li ilj MARCH 3 St. Margaret Chapter of NAIM - Bowling - McHenry Recreation - 7 p.m. Luther Leaguf/ Remains Active Thirty members of the Luther league or youth group at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry, enjoyed an afternoon of snowmobiling recently at the farm of Wayne and Audrey Sherman, 11206 McConnell road, Woodstock. Two officers of the league, Cindy Mowrer and Sue Holmgreen, recently returned from a weekend officer's training school at East Bay Bible camp, Bloomington, Illinois. At the school they received information which will assist the local league with programing. The sponsors for the youth group have held meetings to re establish the goals and long range plans for the very active league. The sponsors include Earl and Lynette Trier, Les and Madge Carlson, Harold and Shirley Kivley and Pastor and Rosemary Schneider. LUTHER LEAGUE MEMBERS When having furniture re- upholstered. use leftover material, cut in desired shapes, to protect chair arms and backs where they are most likely to become soiled. The increase in the number of mothers working away from home has resulted in an in crease in the number of children under age six left in the care of a "substitute" parent. How safe are these youngsters? How well protected against accidents are the children and their "sub stitute" parent in charge? What can you do for their safety while you are away? To help insure the safety of your children while you are away, the Council on Family Health offers these suggestions: 1. Impress upon children that they are expected to obey the person in charge. 2. Emphasize to the sub stitute parent that she is never to leave the children alone at home. 3. Direct the adult in charge that while using household chemicals or cleaning agents, she must be sure that the children are not in danger. After using the chemicals, they should be stored out of the children's reach. 4. If medication is to be given to the children, tell your baby sitter the exact dosage and frequency. You might even write such information if more than one child is taking medicine. Again, instruct her to immediately recap the medicine and set it in its proper storage place out of the reach of youngsters. This rule also applies to any medication your sitter may be taking. 5. To help prevent burns and scalds, teach your baby-sitter to keep pot handles turned toward the back of the stove, to test the. children's bath water before letting them enter the tub, and to keep matches out of the children's reach. 6. The children should be taught to put their playthings away when they are through with them, if a place is provided for easy storage. This procedure will help prevent accidents caused by a toy left on the floor or stairs. 7. Get a good first aid sheet and place it on the inside of your medicine cabinet door or on any other handy surface. Show your baby-sitter where the sheet is located and where she can find first aid supplies. 8. Leave a pad with the name MARCH 5 McHenry Grams, Charter 826 - Board Meeting -- 10 a.m. - 1205 Manchester Mall. He acts like he likes me, but he won't do any thing about it! He is really cool and a lot of girls like him. So, could you tell me how to get him? I would appreciate your help. OUR REPLY: He's just enjoy ing his freedom and being cool. The reason all those other girls think he's cool is he probably for the same reason you like him - it's his personality and his indepen dence. It sounds like he enjoys the situation as it is now, so you are out of luck. Try to find some one not so cool - but reachable. 11 THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS I f */ out & o% & McHenry Country Club 820 N.
