(DON PEASLEY PHOTO) New Manager Named For Laid Bank Association Bill Hahn, 23, is the new manager of the Federal Land Bank association of Woodstock, Kenneth Denman, Lake Villa, president of the farmer-owned cooperative, has announced. Hahn has an agricultural background, born and raised near Byron in Ogle county. His father, Maurice, has been agricultural instructor at Byron high school for twenty- six years. A graduate of Illinois State university in 1971, Hahn majored in agricultural usiness. He joined the staff of the Farmers Home ad ministration in Freeport following graduation, working with that organization until coming to Woodstock this month, Denman said. Hahn was married in 1970, and he and his wife, Gail, now living in Woodstock, have a one-year-old daughter, Julie. He was an active member of the Jaycees while in Freeport. The FLBA of Woodstock serves farmers in McHenry, Lake and Boone counties with long-term credit needs and is a farmer-owned cooperative. Farmers from the three counties comprise the board of directors. Assessment Tax Roll-Back Bill Passes 143-0 By a vote of 143-0 Tuesday, the Illinois House Approved State Rep. Cal Skinner Jr.'s first bill. The proposal would allow owners of 40 acres or more in any Illinois counties to decide for themselves whether their land shall be assessed at what it would sell for or at what it is worth determined by the crops produced on it. At the present time, state law requires all property to be assessed at 50 percent of the market value in all counties with less than 200.000 population, regardless of use. "Once a farmer's use changes from growing corn to producing children, the owner must pay taxes on the dif ference between the property's sale price and its productivity value for the three years before the sale," Skinner pointed out. "This tax roll-back provision should help provide local schools and other governments revenue when it's most needed." Passage of the bill will forestall the necessity to raise assessments on farmland in 80 percent - 90 percent of the state's counties, according to the most recent assessment averages computed by the Department of Local Govern ment Affairs. Set March 31 Dues Deadline For Property Owners The majority of property owners in our subdivision made an effort to pay their annual dues last year. Costs are rising each year as we all well know. Thus at the election meeting it was voted to raise the dues to $20 for permanent residents and $15 for summer residents. If you will recall the financial statement for 1972 it showed that expenses for our sub division are greater than the amount of dues collected. Other fund raising had to be done in order to make ends meet. Please try to do your little part by paying this month. Paying early saves the association money on postage and individuals from giving up their precious time as a collection agent. Each month your dues are not paid the late charge will be twenty-five cents. Everyone has financial problems not to be compared with one's neighbor. This is just another bill for living expenses and services rendered. Let's all try to pay our dues by March 31. Make your check or money order payable to West Shore Beach Property Owners Association and drop in the Mohlman mailbox. BOTTLE TRUCKING Our first haul to the recycling station in Gurnee will be Saturday March 31. Collection ladies should by now have called their neighbors and started to gather bottles and cans. Has everyone been saving their garbage? If help is needed or pick up desired please call me. TRAVELING: FOR BUSINESS Thomas Bitterman of 5422 W.
