New Addition For Marian's Art Department The recent purchase of a ceramic kiln by Marian Central Catholic high school will make possible the augmentation of the art department to include a unit in ceramics. Marian Central, unlike some other Catholic high schools, has had an art department since its inception in 1960; however, the depart­ ment has focused heavily on craft skills. Recently, the program has grown to include studies in figure drawing and anatomy, multi-color linoleum prints, photography and film-making. Now ceramics has been in­ cluded and it is accepted in many art circles as a legitimate fine art form. The purchase of the kiln for the new ceramics unit was realized through funds donated by the 1972 graduating senior class. The students had several service plans for the school and chose to recognize the art department with their gift. Future plans of extending the art department, cited by Victor Meuch, art teacher, are the inclusion of metal sculpture, lithography, and weaving. These plans would necessitate the purchase of a welder, lithography press and loom. Meuch feels that by working together with the various organizations and clubs at Marian, the art department can grow to include the ever*new media and techniques in art. Loan D serves the insurance, publishing, advertising, graphic arts, paper and paper products and installment financing industries. Prior to joining the bank in 1965, Herdrich served in the U.S. Army. He was elected an officer in 1968 and an,assistant vice-president in 1970. \ He was graduated from Marquette university in 1962 with an A.B. degree in economics and from the University of Chicago in 1969 with an M.B.A. He and his wife, the former Joy Fairchild, and their two children live at 4711 Daniel drive, Crystal Lake.
