Father Mechan officiated at the wedding ceremony. An organization meeting of the new McHenrv Civic club was held at the community high school last Thursday evening at which time permanent officers were elected and by-laws adopted. According to the by­ laws the object of the club is to promote and assist in sustaining the civic welfare of McHenry and surrounding community. Mrs. Amanda Pearson, wife of Gus Pearson, was found dead early on Saturday morning at the Pearson home west of Ringwood. "Bacon's Nook" is the new name of the Matt Laures restaurant which has been leased by Mrs. Nellie Bacon and will be opened about May 1. Mrs. Bacon has had a great deal of experience in this line of work and is making plans for a busy summer. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 29, 1948) V Local residents will be in­ terested in a recent an­ nouncement by Admiral Corporation that it has decentralized its manufac­ turing activities in a move to reduce production costs. Production of portable radios is now centered in McHenry. The public is invited to see the new kindergarten room at 202 W. Waukegan road between the hours of 7 and 9:30 on Thursday evening May 6. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars are busy making plans for the third annual V.E. Day dance to be held May 5. Because there are no dance halls within McHenry spacious enough to accommodate the large crowds that always at­ tend this gala social event. The dance will be held at Nells ballroom. Miss Rosalie Williams and Miss Susan Olsen were hostesses at a miscellaneous bridal shower held at the Legion hall honoring Miss Jean Nickels. Miss Nickels will be­ come the bride of John Reed on May 6. The farewell party at the Green street tavern Saturday night was a very successful one. The many friends who came from far and near to spend a last evening with smiling Joe bade him farewell and wished him luck in whatever he chooses to un­ dertake in the future. Lorenz, director of the Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings has an­ nounced. He said that workmen of the Division of Waterways are placing buoys marking the channel in the navigation area. The McHenry locks will be open from 5:30 to midnight daily through the summer and fall seasons. Miss Judith Ann Selzer of McHenry was selected as Miss FBLA for the state of Illinois at the Future Business Leaders of America convention held in Springfield. A total of 200 children in the two Catholic parishes in McHenry received their First Communion in impressive rites in the two churches last Sun­ day. Mary Alice O'Connor of Wonder Lake and Larry Sword of Crystal Lake, exchanged vows in a double ring ceremony April 20 at Christ the King church in Wonder Lake. Rev. James Vanderpool officiating. Summer school is being planned in McHenry for a six week period. One unit of credit may be earned. Courses to be offered include English I, II, III, American History, Typing I, Algebra I, General Mathematics and Driver Education. It was a complete sell­ out. Bob Myers is organizing an inter-club to Rockford and while there, they will visit Art Lau, who is hospitalized in Rockford. It was announced that the annual merit award dinner will be held May 14 at the Methodist SCHOOL MATERIAL EXHIBIT - McHenry District 15 hosted a material exhibit for the second time in two years. Nearly thirty nationally known text and educational material companies were represented. Change in education is constant and continual. Therefore, the school feels it is vital for educators to know what material is available, as well as keeping abreast of these new and wor­ thwhile products. A material exhibit provides an opportunity for teachers to see, first hand, what is occurring on the educational scene. EVANS Harold P. Evans, Wood­ stock's "Mr. Knight of Columbus," was honored by Bishop Boylan General assembly when a class enrollment was held Sunday, April 8, at Aurora. Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Western district of Illlinois, Marquette province, that day had a testimonial exemplification and banquet in Aurora honoring the Rev. Msgr. Henry M. Schryver, V.F., pastor of St. Joseph Church, Elgin. Evans joined Woodstock Council 776 in April 1921. In 52 years of continuous, active membership, he has held every elective office in his council, serving as Grand Knight for 7V2 years, and as treasurer for the last 10 years. He also served as District Deputy for 10 years, serving councils in Lake and McHenry counties. As a ceremonial officer, working in all the degrees of the order, he has assisted in con­ ferring the honors of mem­ bership upon hundreds of candidates. He has served on the Western district, Fourth Degree Ceremonial staff, ever since its inception in 1960.
