Talked with John Busscher about getting men's golf news Golf is big news in McHenry and we want reports. "Red" Winkel is expanding his gardening this year. With the price of onions, he plans a 5x5 patch instead of the 4x4 he had last year. We lost 13 pounds since last October and only one person noticed. Maybe another 13? After many years of activity, the Palace Recreation will be no more. The Forester group wound up the season Friday night. Little Orphan Annie got into the White House and into the President's office. Don't lose hope. The country may be saved! Coach "Hutch" and his wife visited the Triple K Resort, owned and operated by Norma and Verne Thompson during Easter vacation and brought us a brochure describing the place. Looks inviting. On the back page we see a picture titled "Morning Trout" with none other than Bill and Lila Burfeindt looking over a nice catch. It looks like we took over the scoring in 1931. On the A's we see names like Harold Freund, Mel Whiting, Schumacher, La Bahn, Jim Fay, Winkel, Bacon, Johnson, "Little Joe" Freund, "Hup" Smith and Erwin. The McHenry Locals list T. Anderson, Howard, Phan- nenstill, Stoffel, Geier, B. Thurlwell, A. Anderson, Bill Kreutzer, Wally Kreutzer, N. Thurlwell Thorsell and Thennes. Mitchell, who heads the Coast Guard's Boating Education Division in Washington. "We have drafted two proposed regulations that would require the carriage of a secondary means of propulsion such as a paddle or an oar oi* boats under sixteen feet in length, and a 'de'watering' (Bailing) device on all boats, Mind you, these items have not even been open to Rublic hearings yet," stated Captain Mitchell. "That's a procedures to implemflDtjgpgi 0 any-of our regulations. Wlpch is4j 0 , not .to .say, however, that we 0 don't recommend having such devices on board at the present time. As we see it, anything that contributes to the safety and well-being of the individual on the water is highly recommended." CONFUSED? \ "If some of these new or proposed regulations seem a bit complex, you must realize that there are so many different types of boats and boating situations that in many cases regulations cannot be im plemented which would apply to all classes and types of vessel," continued Captain Mitchell. "But it is the responsibility of each boatman be aware of those sments that apply to When in doubt...find out! If you are puzzled by any of the new requirements (or any of the old ones, for that matter) don't hesitate to call your local Coast Guard unit, Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla, or Power Squadron. In those instances where regulations may vary from state to state, be sure*, to find out what agency in your area has boating jurisdiction; call that agency to confirm your responsibilities under law. Commented Rear Admiral W a g n e r , r e c e n t l y , "Recreational boating should be just that: recreational! But we all must realize that the hazards inherent in the activity require the establishment ojf some minimum $$fety staru dards to serve as 'insurance: against tragedy on the water." 1 1 1 0 Totals 37 5 6 2 ELGIN Gallione 5 0 1 0 Shorey 5 0 0 0 Edwards 5 0 2 0 Prestidge 5 0 0 0 Elliott 5 0 0 0 Hollingsworth 5 1 0 0 Lauderdale 4 1 2 0 Taylor 2 0 0 0 Hitzeroth 4 0 3 2 Beebe 1 o . 0 0 McCafferty And Wickencamp Hurl V No Hittes For McHenry Sophs 41 8 2 The blubber, or fatty layer under the skin of whales, is often two feet thick, and often weighs 25 to 30 tons per whale. -- Randy McCafferty hurled his first no hitter of the" season Thursday against Crown, and Dave Wickencamp picked up his 2nd no hitter of the season as the Warriors won 3 out of 4 the past week.
