JOHN H. UHLER REAL ESTATE CO. 3321 W. Elm St., 385-3250 McHenry f THINK ABOUT IT! By BOB JUSTEN When McKinley was in Congress, he boarded a street car; took the wily seat available. Soon after, a frail working woman boarded the car and stood in front of a Congressman colleague. The man hid behind his newspaper; pretended not to see her. McKinley noticed it and gave her his seat. Years later, when McKinley was President, the ungallant, selfish Congressman was recommended for an ambassador's post. McKinley re fused to appoint him. He feared the fellow would foil to extend common courtesies expected of an ambas sador. The disappointed Congressman never knew why he did not get the appointment. A prominent industrialist was considering a certain applicant for an important job. He invited the fellow to lunch. When the food was served, the industrialist noticed the man douse his food with salt and pepper before tasting it. In doing this, the man elimanited himself from the job. The industrialist feared that any man who would decide food needed more seasoning before tasting it, would be similarly impulsive in mak ing decisions before knowing all the focts. The appli cant often wondered why he foiled to get the job. > Both stories are true. Both stories illustrate how other people's eyes see things about us that can haunt or hamper our hopes. It does pay, periodically, to see ourselves as others see us. GEORGE R. JUSTEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3519 W. Elm Street, McHenry, III.
