One of the nicest things about our falling in love has been finding that we agree about almost everything under the sun. Bob won Mom's heart the minute we got there. Laurie, my little sister, asked, "Come see my bird's nest?" "Sure," Bob said, and away they went. Mom beamed. She thinks anyone who likes children and birds is all right. Later, Bob played basketball with my brothers and tin kered with the tractor, getting black and greasy right along with Dad. Everybody loved him. Sunday we all went to church. Standing there, singing with Bob, my family close by, I thanked God for His good ness. I'm glad that God and his church have been an important part of my life and of Bob's. Our life together will be en riched by this shared reverence. Your church offers joyous fellowship. Why don't you go --and take your family with you? Monies were also approved for the Parks and Public Buildings committee for necessary repairs at the beach area and baseball equipment. Approval was also given for a much needed light at Beach and Riverside drives. Communication was received from the State of Illinois regarding the leasing of state property adjacent to the beach area fdr the purpose of recreation facilities and a boat launch. It would be necessary to construct the boat launch and parking facilities ac cording to the state requirements. It was felt at this time that monies were not available for an undertaking of (his nature. It will still be studied by the Parks and Public Buildings committee. The meeting adjourned at 11:10 p.m. OTHER NEWS Civil Defense chairman, Mr. Pinkonsly, Jr., has requested volunteers for his committee. Sand bags are available if necessary; however, we would have to purchase the sand to fill the bags when the need arises. Any interested parties who wish to be part of this com mittee, please contact Mr. Pinkonsly at 385-3213. Robert Steck has informed the village that he has pur chased a spare sump pump for the use of the residents of the village in the event that their pumps need repairs: This is only in the event that you already have a pump at your home. The new owners of the water company, Northern Utilities, has informed us that all damages caused by residents or contractor hired by residents will be paid for by the offender. This cost usually is at a minimum of $300 and up. If you have a broken meter or need help from the water company, contact Frank Higgins of Northern Utilities, 385-6341. It has been the practice of some septic companies to use the easements in order to arrive at a particular septic tank for cleaning. This practice is not legal. The only per missible trucks on the easements would be the utilities such as Illinois Bell, Commonwealth Edison, Northern Illinois Gas company and. Northern Utilities. Ac cording to ordinance, the only way a truck can enter onto property is over a culvert. Septic trucks in the future are not allowed to enter and exit across vacant property and over ditches. Any septic trucks or any other type of truck that enters over dug-out ditches will have to defray the cost ol repairs. This is only fair, as it has caused the shoulder of the roads to be torn off and water flooring incorrectly. Many of our existing problems, per taining to water flow, has been caused by abuse use of the ditches. Needless to say, it is common sense that if you have a sump pump operating, the proper way to direct the water is to the ditches. A short drive through the village will show that many sump pumps are directed toward the septic fields. The water table is very high at this time and additional water from sump pumps should not be emptying over septic fields whether it is your own or that of your neighbor. Three dogs within the last week have been reported to the clerk's office. All three of these dogs do not have a valid village tag. A courtesy has been ex tended to keep the dog until the owner has been found. This entails a complete day that someone else had to keep your dog. The next time, the dogs will be found at the pound for which a fee will be required to release the dog. Isn't it cheaper to have the current village tag??? More boys and mothers are needed - the boys to become future Cub Scouts and the mothers as den mothers. Telephone Andy Pace for further information. There is no better training for future citizens than that afforded by the Boy Scouts- of America. Student Government At AACC Is Abolished The student government at McHenry j Couhty college recently voted to | abolish itself. The action cajme on the recommendation bf the student government president, Lu Burch of Woodstock. In place of the current student government, a three- part method of representation will be established on a trial basis. The new plan is similar to a plan devised by the students at Waubonsee Com munity college in Sugar Grove, 111. One part of the new system will be an inter-organizational council. This group will consist of representatives selected from various student organizations. The clubs currently officially recognized are Black Watch Players, Art club, Tartan (student newspaper), Christian Science organizations, Veterans' organization, Ski club, Phi Theta Kappa, Automotive club and the Camera club. In addition, some at-large representatives will be chosen from among those students who do not participate in the official organizations on campus. This group will coordinate activities and be the voice of students to the administration and faculty. Another group will be the student activities board. These students will be chosen by the coordinator of student ac tivities and with the inter-- organizational council from DIAL-A-DEVOTION PHONE Hear God's Word Wherever You Are. SPONSdRED BY: GUETTLER'S SERVICE STATION candidates suggested by the inter-organizational council. These students will organize and promote activities on campus. There is a possibility that these students will be paid for their"*work. Another group will be the publications board. The board consists of three students chosen by the inter- organizational council, two faculty members elected by the faculty, and one administrator appointed by the college president. This board will pass judgment on questions which arise on interpretation of the publications policy which is currently in effect at the college. "The key to the success of this - arrangement is cooperation between the student activities board and the student activities coordinator. We are trying to establish a system of communication that encourages such cooperation," according to Ms. Burch. " Details of the new arrangement are being worked out by former student govern ment representatives, Ms. Burch and Kenneth "Gus" W i l l i a m s , n e w l y - n a m e d coordinator of student ac tivities. Here & There in BUSINESS RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE Raymond Tonyan of Crystal Lake, formerly of McHenry, a savings operation coordinator at the First Federal Savings and Loan of Chicago, has received a newly created four- diamond award for passing the twenty-five year employment mark. Mr. Tonyan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tonyan of 146 Peterson parkway, Crystal Lake. His sister is Mrs. Howard (Marie) Dowell of McHenry. * * • * Democracy, like religion, suffers most from its care less advocates, not from its enemies.
