Justen & Son funeral home for Josephine Scalfaro, who died Tuesday, May 22, in Harvard hospital. The body will rest at the chapel until the time of last rites. Interment will be private. - Mrs. Scalfaro, 76, was born March 19, 1897, in Chicago. She resided at 3715 W. Weingart road, McHenry, at the time of her death. The deceased was a member of Riverview Camp, No. 6818, R.N A. Her husband, Victor, died in February of 1970. She is sur­ vived by one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Lorraine) Coari and one granddaughter. JAMES D. CLEARY James D. Cleary, 62, a resident of 2812 Walnut drive, Wonder Lake, died in McHenry hospital Tuesday, May 22. Mr. Cleary was born Oct. 23, 1910, in Illinois. The body was transferred from the George R. Justen & Son chapel to the Kirlin-Egan and Butler funeral home, 900 S. 6th street, Springfield, for services. WILLIAM A. HADDICK William A. Haddick,. 43, of 1619 N. Beach road, McHenry, died unexpectedly at his home Wednesday, May 23. Mr. Haddick was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Peoria, 111. He was former vice-president and cashier of Uptown National bank of Moline and the First National bank, McHenry. The deceased was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, the American Legion, the 40-and 8 organization, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the N.A.B.A.C. He was a former member of the Optimist club. Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Jeffrey W., and James A., and two daughters, Lyn Ann and Lynda Sue, all at home; two brothers, the Rev. Ben S., of Yates City, 111., and Phillip J. of Wood- bridge, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Nancy Curtis, of Canton, 111; and his father, Ben N., of Petersburg, 111. His mother, Margaret, died in September of 1972. Visitation will be held Monday, May 28, at the Hodgeson funeral home, 608- 20th street, Rock Island. Private services and interment will be Tuesday, May 29, at Rock Island Arsenal National cemetery. EMILY MARTINO Emily Martino of 4913 N. Roger, McHenry, died in the local hospital Wednesday, May 23. By request of the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse committee, the Family Service and Mental Health Clinic for McHenry County will sponsor a seminar entitled "The Family and Alcoholism". The need for this seminar became quite evident to clinic officers when President Richard* Nixon recently addressed the nation with the fact that the number one health and drug problem in the United States today is the growing amount of alcoholism in families and individuals. The seminar, which will be free to the general public, will be held Wednesday, May 30, from 8 to 10 p.m. in the reception room of the clinic in McHenry. This seminar will present specialists in various fields who will discuss their involvement with alcoholism and its effects upon the modern family. The following fields represented and their topics include: S h e r i f f ' s d e p a r t m e n t , "Alcoholism and Law En­ f o r c e m e n t " ; A t t o r n e y , "Alcoholism, Divorce and its Legal Aspects"; Psychiatrist, "The Medical and Emotional View"; Psychologist, "Per­ sonal and Emotional Problems of the Alcoholic" and Educator and Social Psychologist, "Societal and Family Crisis". Again it is stressed that the seminar is free to any in­ dividual or family that wishes t o a t t e n d . T h e r e a r e n o Name Winners Of Harrison Band Awards Richard Mikus, supervisor of music at Harrison school in Wonder Lake, has announced winners of the annual band award, which is presented each Spring. The band award is given to the outstanding eighth grade boy or girl who has shown such qualities*' as leadership, citizenship and musicianship. Mikus in announcing that this year it was impossible to choose only one, named Marge Gibbons and Clare Higgins as winners. Marge is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Gibbons, and Clare's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Higgins. Both of these girls play several instruments, have been in the music department since fourth grade, and are members of the 1972-73 Harrison Band council. The body was taken to the Rosewood funeral home, Manheim and St. Charles, Chicago, for arrangements. Susan Smith Awarded BA College Degree Two hundred eighty-three students received diplomas at Wartburg college's 121st an­ nual commencement at Waverly, Iowa, last Saturday. Included in that total were twenty-seven students who will c o m p l e t e g r a d u a t i o n requirements during the The Woman's club of Wonder Lake announced on Wednesday that it is taking applications for Miss Wonder Lake candidates. Deadline is set for June 11. with summer term and twenty-six who graduated in December at the end of the winter term. One of those in the latter category was Susan (Lundy) Smith of 2805 Beach View, McHenry. She was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree. Senator Dick Clark (D-Ia.) was commencement speaker at the 10 a.m. ceremony which was held on the center campus mall. A Baccalaureate service with Dr. John W. Bachman, president of the college, as the speaker was held the previous night in Neumann auditorium. preliminary judging scheduled for June 21 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Karlson. To qualify, a girl must be between 16 and 21 years of age. She must be 16 by Aug. 1 and cannot reach her 22nd birthday until after Jan. 21, 1974. Rt. 31, McHenry, had gone on a fishing trip with Wing Woo, Dan Paul and B.J. Hansen. Mrs. Coon is a graduate of Marian Central Catholic high school and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Alverno college. She formerly taught Language Arts and Social Studies in McHenry Junior high school. The recent graduate and her husband, Rex, reside in Fort Wayne, Ind.
