Twice Told Tales FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of June 8, 1933) Miss May Elizabeth Justen of McHenry was graduated with a I cum laude bachelor of science ' degree in Home Economics ; from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Ind., on June 4. The McHenry Plaindealer „ invites as its guests, Jas. C. Ladd, Ringwood, and guest to be present at the Empire " theatre June 14-15. The feature t picture will be "Island of Lost ' Souls". The garage of L. Grose at Volo under the name of Triangle garage is now open for business with 24 hour service. -The Triangle garage is the J service station for Chicago, Illinois, and North Chicago Motor clubs and is the Shell Gas service station. Mr. and Mrs. Grose and family are residents of McHenry living in the P.J. Cleary house. The Raymond Hall home at Ringwood was damaged by fire. Spontaneous combustion was the cause. Thomas Burns, 9 years old, of Waukegan, was badly injured when he was struck by an automobile on the old bridge in McHenry Friday evening. Five young McHenry men from McHenry township have joined the Forest army. The five recruited from McHenry township were Frederick Mueller, Daniel O'Shea, William Brittain, Theodore Anderson and Edmund Whiting. The children of the Methodist Sunday school with their teachers, enjoyed a picnic in the park where games were enjoyed and a picnic dinner was served. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of June 10, 1948) Mr. Vale Adams, West McHenry,-, was awarded the B.B.A. Bachelor of Arts in business administration degree at Lake Forest college's seventieth annual com­ mencement, June 5. The advertising and publicity committees designated to spread the news far and wide regarding the big McHenry water carnival were pleased to learn this week that most and possibly all of the Chicago radio stations will air the news of this big event. Sadness came to the family and friends of Mrs. Matt B. Laures, June 3, ^hen she died at her home in West McHenry after a lingering illness. Her daughter, Mary Jane, a nurse, returned from the west coast to care for her. Sunday, June 6, marked the twenty-fifth wedding an­ niversary of one of McHenry's popular couples, Mr. and Mrs. George P. Freund. Matt P. Freund, Elm street jeweler, has recently moved his shop from the Peter Freund building to his residence on Park street. Miss Rita Martin entertained a small group of friends at a breakfast Sunday morning, June 6, honoring her niece, Ann Smith, following the graduation exercises at St. Mary's church. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of June 13, 1963) The summer school session for students and adults at * C ' ' McHenry high school will begin June 17, subjects to be taught include English I, Algebra I, American history and typing. The body of a small boy was taken to Ostend cemetery last Thursday afternoon for burial. None of his family was present, in fact even his identity was unknown. The child was the young negro boy about 6 years of age whose body, badly beaten was dragged from the Fox River near the dam, April 24. Construction work on the city's newest sewer project began Monday morning on James street. When completed virtually all the city will be equipped with sanitary sewer service. The program will also cover the Cooney Heights area. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultz of Johnsburg will observe their sixtieth wedding anniversary Sunday, June 23, at their home. State Mails Grant Forms • The Illinois Department of Revenue has notified Forrest Hare, Algonquin Township Assessor, that all claims for grant forms have been mailed- All senior citizens 65 years and over, or disabled persons eligible for property tax or jfenjal relief, should file another registration form if they have not received a reply by this date. Anyone who has not filed and is eligible should register. Forms are available at the Illinois Department of Revenue, - P.O. Box 3124, Springfield, 111., 62708. The Claim for Grant forms cannot be filed until the tax bills are received from the county. CHANGE TB NAME Illinois Lung association is the new name of the Illinois Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease association which inaugurated its new title at its annual meeting in New York May 20. Kiningham explained that his association's board of directors approved the change to Illinois Lung association because "the simpler and shorter name will be easier for people to recognize and remember and they can more easily identify the organization when they need help." HEAD SCOUT COUNCIL The Blackhawk Area council, Boy Scouts of America, Inc. elected Dean A. Olson, well known industrialist of Rock- ford, as its president at the Council annual meeting. Olson is a veteran Scouter, having served in a variety of capacities including that of district chairman for the old Mauh-Nah-Tee-See district which includes all of Win­ nebago county, has been a member of the Executive board and currently serves on the Executive committee of the East Central region. Elected as vice-presidents were Dana M. Dawes of Marengo, Arthur J. Moore of Rockford and Dr. Delbert Williams of Stockton. The council commissioner, James A. Hughes, was reelected, as was treasurer, A Robert P Kline of Rockford. V C.W.
