Every season Mr. Crouch fills the large urns at. the city park which are very beautiful during the summer season. Joseph J. Barbian received his A.B. degree and Nicholas Miller received his B.S. degree at the 62nd annual com mencement at the University of Illinois. Art Smith, Joe Regner and John Stoffel went to Hebron Monday evening where they attended the meeting of the McHenry County Grocers association. Salesmen from Swift & Co. were present and gave interesting talks. A picnic will be held in Woodstock in July with Art Smith appointed in charge of entertainment for the children. Farmers who live adjacent to McHenry were thrilled one morning when they sightedtire* dirigible "Macon" far away in the eastern sky as it headed northward on the 48 hour flight from the base at Akron, Ohio. The giant ship was seen by the Math Glosson family, who live at thfe? top of Sherman's hill, one of the highest points in the county. Ninety persons were riding 4n the ship/" Two marriage ceremonies were performed by Rev. L.H. Brattain at the Methodist parsonage Monday afternoon. The first was that of Mr. Henry Felmeten, Jr., and Miss Addie Raven and the second couple are Mr. Joseph M. Peterson and Miss Carrie Oppenheimer. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter M. Justen on Waukegan street has been remodeled into an English type home. The Bide-A-Wee, McHenry's popular lunch room, has opened for the summer. Mrs. Taylor is proprietor. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken ft-om the files of June 17, 1948) \ The fulfillment of a dream of long standing was realized on June 2 for'Jeanne Marie Busch when she received her high school diploma with the 1948 graduating class. One week later the 17 year old girl was dead, having passed away in the Woodstock hospital on June 9, following a long period of ill health. Dayle M. Brown, a former student of McHenry high school, has joined the U.S. Marine Corps to serve for a period of three years. He is at Parris Island, South Carolina, where he will undergo his training. At the annual election of officers Thursday night the local council Knights of Columbus chose Edward J. Frett, who resides in the Country club addition, as Grand Knight for the ensuing year. Former schoolmates and old friends met last week at the Villa Hotel Resort at Pistakee Bay for a reunion. A delicious dinner was followed by an hour spent in recalling old times. Those present were Irene Benwell, Clara Kuntsman, Lenore Cooley, Agnes Bienapfl, Genevieve Knox, Florence Knox, Edna Knox, Eleanor Foley, Mayme Buss, Vera Bolger and Julia Kent. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Adams of Johnsburg June 13 observed their silver wedding an- nrtfersary by entertaining 200 friends and relatives at a reception at Nell's ballroom. On Saturday morning, June 12, in St. Mary's church Miss Gloria Mae Biggers of Wonder Lake was united in holy matrimony to Mr. George M. Freund of McHenry. The double ring ceremony was performed by Msgr. Nix. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of June 20, 1963) Sixteen Scouts and four adult leaders returned last Saturday, a very tired but happy group who had successfully com pleted a 114.8 mile hike to Starved Rock, the boys are members of Troop 459 of Lakeland Park. Favorable comment has been received on the new column which started in last week's Plaindealer, called "Smart- Cuts for Women". Word was received this week at the Plaindealer office that Bert Kissling of McHenry has been named winner in Time magazine's twenty-seventh annual current affairs contest. Other high scoring local students include Dean Ken- nebeck, John Reese, Steve Ahlgrim and Mike Noonan. Rev. Lionel Barrett officiated at the nuptial service per formed in the Evangelical Mission church of Crystal Lake, June 15, uniting in marriage Miss Marie Annette Karbin and Mr. Robert Bykowski of Lakemoor. At opening day at the Pony League ball park the Red Devils drum and bugle corps and the Boy Scouts saluted the flag as it was raised over the field. Bob Freund of the Red Devils played "The Star Spangled Banner." Otto Klemm of Volo, well known businessman in the area for many years, died unex pectedly of a heart attack June 16 at the age of 69.
