Their first 'stop was the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. From there they visited the Sand Dunes National Monument and Mesa Verde, where they saw the Indian Cliff Dwellings. They climaxed their vacation with a three day stay at Grand Canyon. The Worths returned home through Utah where they visited Zion, Bryce and Arches national parks. They all enjoyed themselves and were glad the weather stayed clear for most of their trip. Stephanie and Jenny were anxious to tell their little friends all about camping out. The family returned in time for Jenny to celebrate her third birthday. Her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, helped her blow out her candles.. Belated birthday wishes, Jenny! MEMORIAL DAY FESTIVITIES Rain didn't prevent Sharon and John Gacek's family and friends from visiting from Chicago Memorial Day weekend. As we can well remember, that Sunday was a rainy day but Sharon's little sister, Donna, and her friend, Michelle, tried to fish in bet­ ween downpours. They had no luck, but had fun and got plenty wet! Other family members and friends who spent the day were Sharon's mom and dad, Mr. and Mrs. DeSilva, her brother, Dennis, and his wife, Bernice, Jackie, Danny, Danielle and Patti Mydlowski, Ann Puchalski, my family, and friends, Chris and Paul. Little Jay Gacek was very excited and enjoyed all the attention he received. A good time was had by everyone, despite the weather! Maria and Ken Henderson celebrated the holiday with their relatives on Monday and the weather cooperated with them for their cookout. „ Ken's sister and her husband, Judy and Gerry Konitzer, and their family joined in the fun at the Henderson household. They reside in Round Lake Beach. Maria's cousins, Bernie and Rolaine Belgrave, and their family visited from Chicago for two days. In addition to the giant cookout, Ken and Maria had a badminton game set up and the kids and adults had fun playing to see who were the champs! Everyone enjoyed themselves! We also had company for the holiday and enjoyed ourselves just relaxing and taking ad­ vantage of the good weather. My sister, her husband, and their little baby, Christie, joined us from Rosemont. Pat and Ron enjoy coming out to visit and this time they were able to spend a couple of days. CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES! Sunday, May 27, was a busy and exciting day for ihe John Oakford family. They held a joint graduation party for their sons, Larry and Bill, at St. Patrick's church hall. Ap­ proximately 120 family members and friends attended the gala celebration. Larry graduated from Carmel High School for Boys in Mundelein May 26th and Bill graduated from Montini School June 6. Larry's godmother, Mrs. Marilyn McCullough, and his godfather, C.L. Grondy, were on hand from Chicago for his special day. Bill's godparents not disappoint him and also came out from Chicago for the day. They are Mrs. Margaret Gazinski and Mitchell Wat- trock. After the dinner at St. Pat's, the guests returned to the Oak- ford home where mom, dad, and sister, Meg, helped en­ tertain them. It was an exciting day for the Oakford family, expecially sons, w Larry and Bill! Congratulations to the graduates! PINK BUNDLE May 9 was an especially happy day for Frank and Linda Sweeney. That's the day their little adopted daughter, Amy Lynn, came into their home. Born March 10, Amy arrived at her new home on daddy Frank's birthday. GIRL SCOUT COOKOUT The girls in Troop 320 went on a picnic to McHenry Dam State Park, Friday, May 31. Everyone enjoyed hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw and all the other trimmings. In spite of the fact it took them 45 minutes to reach the park due to afternoon traffic on 120, a good time was had by all. The girls and leaders were pleased they had a beautiful- day which is ftnusual thetfe days. Birthday happifiess to you all! CUBS TOUR CANTIGNY Six adult leaders and twenty- foui: Cub Scouts from pack 351 went on an outing to the Can- tigny grounds near Wheaton a few weeks ago. Once there they hiked approximately two miles on the McCormickCantigny Cub Scout Trail. They had a narrated tour through Cantigny War Memorial and the Robert R. McCormick Museum. Joe Eisele made their outing more enjoyable by explaining the tanks and guns to the leaders and cubs. Tom Cheatham was in charge of the games after lunch. The cubs who enjoyed the day were: Ryan Bradley, Greg Eckstein, Tony Wember, Mike Sabatka, Curt Gray, Jim Thorson, Chris Nylander, Jim Abner, John Armon, Tom McMahon, Jeff Lawrence, Chris Lawrence, Jeff Gies, Curt Rehberg, Tom Creutz, Jeff Nylander, Ray Roach, Keith Belzer, Joe Johnson, Don Smith, Bill Cheatham, Greg Ernst, Mke Eisele, and Mark Lawrence. JUNE WEDDING Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clove's daughter, Bernadette, became Mrs. Joseph Moerschbaecher III on Saturday, June 2, when she and Joseph exchanged wedding vows during a nuptial mass at St. Patrick's church. A reception followed the ceremony at the American Legion hall. Approximately 250 relative and friends were on hand to wish the happy couple well! (Staff Photo - Wayne Gaylord) WEBELOS AND DADS CAMP-OUT Veteran's Acres was the scene for Pack 351 Webelos- dads camp-out early last month. As each pack signed up they were put in charge of a station. When the boys passed through these stations Jhey learned something about first aid, hatchet and knife care, how to read a campass, physical education for their athletic award, log roll, tug-a-war (dads against sons) and cooking (Jerry Heindl, District executive for Kishwaukee District conducted a demon­ stration). Throughout the day the boys enjoyed hiking and in the evening around the camp fire the scouts participated in skits and some of the dads were in a log game. They all extend a huge thank you to boy scout Vic Barnes who was a big help to the pack. Walker Last Saturday evening a large number of friends and members of the Spring Grove- M o u n t H o p e - R i n g w o o d parishes enjoyed a delicious pot-luck dinner honoring Rev. Willis Walker and his family. Rev. Walker has been assigned to the United Methodist Church in Lockport. A purse was presented to the Walker family and our best wishes go with them as Rev. Walker takes up his new assignment. « TIME CHANGE FOR CHURCH SERVICES Starting Sunday, June 17, church services at the Ringwood United Methodist Church will be held at 9:30 with Rev. Ruth Wegner serving our parish. "500" CLUB Glen and Dorothy Benoy of Alden hosted the "500" club last Saturday night. Paul and Althea Walkington were the only couple able to make it from Ringwood and since it was Dorothy's birthday, Althea surprised her by taking a birth­ day cake. Many more happy returns, Dorothy. They went to Holiday Acres near Belvidere. Twasn't quite so bad as the weekend before but they got rained on again. Three times and out so maybe their third time they can camp without any rain. We sure hope so. There were other square dance • couples there too as this was the square dance camping group, twenty-two families out of twenty-eight who belong to the camping club, some group. ABOUT TOWN Sorry* to hear that Nettie Wright is again in the hospital at Woodstock. Jackie Crosby, who teaches school in Spring Grove, spent her last day of school for this year on Tuesday of last week. She took her children with her so they could see how the many children of Spring Grove ride their horses to school that last day. Since there is only an hour of, school this has become a tradition for the childrqh of thaj„- area to ride their horses, Qiiite a sight for Brian and Michelle Crosby. Word has been received that Ed Betts graduated from high school May 25 at his new home in Gasville, Ark. As Ed had a motorcycle accident he graduated in a wheelchair. And since his knee wasn't healing like it shoud he was taken back to the hospital for further ob­ servation. I'm sure Ed would like to hear from his friends in this area. Ed Betts - Rt.
