OUTDOORSMAN KIT DIVOTS and DOLLS By Espar Oja EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITORj One of the most enjoyable books we have read is "1973 McHenry Cross Country" by Coach Bill Hutchinson. The book shows hours of work, a depth of character, and some real gems that could help persons of any age. The MCHS Cross Country boys have posted the following record from 1968 to 1972: 138 wins, 17 losses, 1 tie. A record like that shows more than good lungs and strong legs. Motivation, sacrifice and desire had to be a part of the record. On the cover of the book we find these: "Fight for it--ifyouwanttobe better!" "The real measure oL an athlete is not what he is-but what he could be!" "Life's battles don't always go to the strongest and fastest man-But, sooner or later, the man who wins-is the man who thinks he can." Yep. That's a real good book. A copy should be placed in the McHenry Library. With Bill's permission, we plan to print more as time goes along. Our "Little Helen" is vacationing this week and typesetting has to be done by others on Captain Dick's crew. We and they miss you, Helen. Read that P S. at the end of John Busscher's McHenry Country Club News. He even keeps track of bir th da vs. Putting a sports page together without Dick Rabbitt's reports on high school athletics isn't easy. Dick gave the school great coverage in all sports. Keep it coming any time you have anv news, Dick. We like it' There was a time when people would travel from miles around to see the House of David baseball team with long hair and beards. Some modern hig leagues make those House of David boys look well trim med. Notice how their caps fly off when they run"? Hat pins or hobby pins might help.
