Investigation Of Fireworks Industry In the wake of an exploding warehouse of fireworks in his home county, State Rep. Cal Skinner, Jr. (R-McHenry county) introduced a resolution in Springfield Tuesday calling for the Illinois Legislative Investigating commission to study the Illinois fireworks industry and to make suggestions for additional regulation of the importation, manufacture, distribution and ignition of fireworks. "In the past three years, each of the major fireworks com panies in the Chicago area has had major explosions," Skinner pointed out. On May 27,1970, it was the Carpentersville Fireworks company of Hun tley. The Melrose Display Fireworks company plant exploded March 6, 1972. Last Saturday, warehouses and fourteen loaded trailers of the Worldwide Fireworks company of McHenry went up in smoke. " I n d e p e n d e n c e D a y celebrations^ last year were marked by death and injury in at least Wauconda. The safety of the public and those setting off the displays were into question elsewhere, including my hometown. "For these reasons, I am introducing a resolution in the Illinois House calling for an investigation of the Illinois fireworks industry from production or importation to ignition. "The resolution also calls for the Commission to monitor displays on the Fourth of July and investigate any accidents. The assistance of the State Fire Marshal and his staff is also requested," Skinner said. Skinner noted that his in terest in fireworks safety probably began because his Officers for the coming year are president, Roger Peterson, Marengo State bank; first vice- president, Lawrence Burg, First Security bank, Cary Grove; second vice-president, Ada Townsend, State Bank of Richmond; and secretary- treasurer, Dan Haeger, State Bank of Woodstock.
