VP i % f Care Necessary In Certifying Farm Program Certification is the final farm program "paper work" for the farmer participating in the 1973 feed grain and wheat programs, the last step preceding payment. "Because certification is a final action by the producer, he must be careful to make no mistakes. Once he has cer tified, he cannot adjust the acreage he has certified to," explained Joe Getty, chairman of the McHenry County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) com mittee. When a producer certifies, he reports exactly what acreage he has in program crops, what acreage he has in set-aside, that he is maintaining the farm's conserving base, and that he has complied with all program regulations and will continue to comply throughout the year. A certification mistake can result in loss of some or all of the farm program payment. Payment will be made beginning July 1 to all producers who have certified program compliance. A producer may come in to the McHenry Youths Complete Week At Band Camp Three McHenry students completed a one-week session of Illinois Wesleyan univer sity's Junior high band camp held last week. The camp held at East Bay Camp on Lake Bloomington, attracted 215 students from seventy-six cities in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. Those from McHenry were Rondi Cunat of 3200 W. Justen road, Craig Mieritz of 608 Orchid Path and Cassandra York of 2906 W. Idyll Dell road. Another one-week session July 1-7 will have 201 students bringing the total enrollment to a record 416 in the camp's sixth year. Barbara Buehlman, director of bands at Round Lake Junior high school, is guest conductor for the symphonic band and Adeline Anderson, director of bands at South Holland Junior high school, is guest conductor of the concert band. Chapel Hill Rd. at the Johnsburg Bridge - just north of McHenry Advertisement ASCS county office at any time UP until July 1 to certify-just as soon as his program crops are planted and he knows he is in compliance with the programs he has signed up for. "The earlier the better for the producer," Mr. Getty said, "since it helps assure early payment fo-p him, but a producer with a question about any detail of certification should check it out at the ASCS county office before he cer tifies." EARNS DEGREE Juanita Kay Repta of 4514 West Shore drive, McHenry, received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Northwestern university in commencement exercises held June 16. More than 3,500 degrees, diplomas and cer tificates were conferred by Northwestern Chancellor J. Ro|coe Miller at the 115th „ annual commencement, held at McGaw Memorial hall in Evanston. "One of these days" usually means "none of these days". All producers who signed up for the feed grain and wheat programs and who want to qualify for program payments are required to certify program compliance. "This applies to producers who enrolled in the zero set-aside plans just as much as to those with set-aside acreage," Getty said. "Remember, a producer participating in the feed grain or wheat program cannot receive his farm program payment until he has certified. Sharon is one of our good neighbors who has done many a favor for this reporter this past year and we appreciate them all. Have a happy day, Sharon, and a "slice of heaven" throughout the year A BIT OF NOSTALGIA Finally...after a whole year, the sun is shining and we have learned to appreciate every beautiful moment of it and the fields next to our house are now dry enough for the farmers to begin their plowing. Those powerful new tractors whiz through acre after acre in no time at all and remind us of the days long ago when we lived in town and the horses came to plow the neighborhood gar dens, leaving their gift of fertilizer as they moved along the newly turned rows. Probably no "happening" in those times grew a bigger bunch of pint sized spectators, unless it was the arrival of the ice wagon. Sometimes a fast moving kid would come away with a chunk of that icy cold, slippery stuff and that was a delight on a hot summer day that could never be fully un derstood or appreciated by today's child who lives in our world of refrigerators and freezers and full time cold drinks and trepts. As Archie Bunker woula say, "Those were the days!" COMMUNITY CALENDAR Sponsored by Women's Club of Wonder Lake, Ann Sowers, Chairman, 653-9549 JUNE 18 thru JUNE 29 Vacation Church School.
