How small man is, and how frail in body. The trees in the picture and even the chimneys on the old house will prob ably long outlive the man. Yet how big man is -- in the things that are not of the body, but are of the mind and soul. God has not made man mammoth. But He has made him poten- Copyright 1973 Keister Advertising Service, Inc., tially great -- if he will but accept the blessings given him, and use the tools of Christian teachings. HELPING PAWS The Bible Speaks Virgje L. Chappell, Pastor First Baptist Church, McHenry LOVE The greatest of all Christian virtues is love.. The Apostle Paul names the three most important of Christian qualities - faith, hope and love. "But the greatest of these is charity (love)" I Corinthians 13:13. "Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty of selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. "All the special gifts andpowers from God will some day come toan end, but love goes on forever. Someday, prophecy, and speaking in unknown languages, and special knowledge - these gifts will disappear. Now we know so little, even with our special gifts, and the preaching of those most gifted is still so poor. But when we have been made perfect and complete, then the need for these .inadequate special gifts will come to an end, and they will disap pear. "It's like this, when I was a child I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child does. But when I became a man my thoughts grew far beyond those of my childhood, and now I have put away the childish things. In the same way, we can see and understand only a little about God now, as if we were peering at his reflection in a poor mirror; but some day we are going to see him in his completeness, face to face. Now all that I know is hazy and blurred, but then I will see everything clearly, just as clearly as God sees into my heart right now. "There are three things that remain - faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love". (I Corinthians 13:4-13 Living Bible.) An altered male is incapable of siring a litter, so that he, like the spayed female, is ineligible to compete in dog shows, other than in the obedience trials. The decision to alter or not to alter also depends, therefore, on whether or not you intend to show him or put him out to stud. When the dog is between two and four months of age is the best time to alter. In fact, the earlier a male is altered, the better, for there is no danger to the young male in the surgery, whereas there is some surgical risk involved in altering older males, of those that are more than six months old. Altering does not affect the appearance (or the disposition and personality) of the male, irrespective of the age at which it is done, in fact, the old idea that spayed females, and altered males, alike, become fat and lazy and show a change in personality has been thoroughly disproved. The majority of them lead healthier and happier lives when they are rid of the sexual strains and stresses, and there is also a definite increase in longevity.
