Robert Fleck, president of the district, in making the announcement today said Mrs. Christensen "has been using nature's classroom long before many teachers and ad ministrators has thought of learning in the out-of-doors." Mrs. Christensen will be honored at the district's annual meeting in January but an announcement of this honor is made now to give her the recognition she deserves. In the mid' 1960's Mrs. Christensen was selected by Northern Illinois university officials to appear/in a film concerning outdoor instruction because of personal com mitment to conservation and outdoor education "Her insight in developing exciting learning situations about environment and con servation takes her students out of the school setting many times during the school year," said Fleck. Mrs. Christensen has an "on site" program involving learning opportunities on the school grounds as well as in volving her classes in trips to the Outdoor Education center in Veterans Acres. Recently she and her students have developed a school garden, planting and cultivating "seed bearing" flowers that were harvested and used by the students during the winter months in their bird feeders "Working with an adult who - is concerned and committed to conservation and man's responsibility in maintaining a healthy environment is an excellent example to set for the children," Robert Blazier, assistant superintendent for instructional services, said in his evaluation^ of Mrs. Christensen and her structional awareness irv outdoor education. We HAVE IT and will cheerfully GIVE IT to you when you require help with your fin ancial needs. Our full range of banking facilities and friendly people are waiting to serve you in every department.
