On Tuesday it's volleyball and Friday it's baseball. These two activities are both for boy£ and girls. The larger the turn out the more activities will be scheduled for the remaining hours. Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. is men's baseball under the supervision of Mr. LaFrancis. Wednesday night at 7 p.m. is ladies and high school girls volley ball. Everyone is welcome to participate and join in on the fun. Ladies volley ball is not doing very well and may have to be cancelled in the future if interest does not in crease. Many ladies of the community say that their husbands will not watch the children. How about making a deal with him? He watches the children on Wednesday night so you can play volleyball and you watch them on Thursday night so he can play baseball. (Article I, Section 7 of the Constitution) Scriptnm wheted by th* Anwriean Bibk- Society They were conscientious and astute men--those architects of the Constitution. They wanted to be sure the President could never halt the processes of democratic government by delaying legislation. And the phrase "Sundays excepted" shows that our Founding Fathers also respected Sunday as the day of the Lord. To them, it seemed natural to safeguard their freedom and pro fess their faith all in one sentence. The document they produced has weathered two hundred years --their faith almost two thousand. Both their Constitution and their creed--the Christian faith--are just as vibrant and important today. Make Sundays an exception to your daily routine--Go to Church! The Happy People In Town Are Those Who Read the McHENRY PLAINDEALER... The Bible Speaks Virg/e L. Chappell, Pastor First Baptist Church, McHenry RECEIVE CHURCH MEMBERS - A service of adult Con firmation was held last Sunday, June 24, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry. The members of the class had been meeting regularly for discussions concerning the basic teachings of the church in order that they may have a meaningful membership. Following the brief service of Con firmation, at which each member approached the altar to receive the Confirmation blessing, all members of the class were welcomed into the fellowship of the church at the door of the sanctuary by the members of the congregation. Those par ticipating in the class included Cheryl Coats, Betty King, Jerome King and Elaine Prange. GOD'S MERCY Very often people develop false concepts concerning God. At other times we overemphasize one characteristic at the expense of others which are just as important. This all develops into a grave injustice toward God and his relationship to man. For example, the anger of God is often spoken of more than His pleasantness. We think more of his punishment than of his reward. There is more fear of rebuke than anticipation of praise. It would seem that these concepts should be ch^pged. It is true that God becomes angry. He does punish the wrongdoer. It is appropriate that we reverence Him. However, all these traits should be con sidered along with their opposite qualities before we can discover God as he really is. The Mercy of God one of the most beautiful of the God qualities. "The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him..." (Psalms 103:17). There are several words in the Hebrew language which are translated mercy in our Bible. The one used most frequently denotes "kindness" and "goodness." Another word carries the concept of "merciful", "grace," and "favor." A special concept is contained in a third word which means "womb." Thus Mercy would denote "motherly feeling." All these qualities are upon, "them that fear him," (Psalm 103:17). The preservation of mankind is a direct result of the mercy of God. "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not" (Lamentations 3:22). The Bible speaks of mankind being separated from God, and yet his preserving mercy continues. God's mercy brings about our forgiveness. The Prophet Micah speaks in wonderment of the Lord as he considers his own forgiveness. "Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger forever, because he delighteth in mercy" (Micah 7:18). Perhaps our concepts of God have been in error. This would be an excellent time to thank God for His Mercy toward us in forgiving all our sins (I John 1:9).
