R i v e r s i d e D r i v e McHenry, Illinois 60050 ADVERTISE IN THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER is unfortunate that due to the big explosion of a few weeks ago, there can be no Fourth of July fireworks display. Regrettable as this is, Legionnaires feel that with only this one break in its fifty-three- year history, the public will understand this situation and support the carnival in the same spirit as in the past. The proceeds from this carnival go a long way toward enabling Post 491 to carry on its yearly program, such as rehabilitation of the veterans, visitation to the veterans and other hospitals, and many general veterans and com munity assistance programs. MUSIN" N' MEANDERIN" (Continued from page 1) And the shortage is widespread. We learned that one of the Americans Abroad students has had difficulty obtaining sufficient paper and envelopes to write home from South America as often as he would like. Drivers should do well with jigsaw puzzles and obstacle courses after following detours necessitated by the resurfacing of several streets. No doubt about it, the results are well worth the in convenience. But in the process, re-routing provides a challenge for anyone trying to give directions to a visitor. "Needless to say we have enjoyed it ( the Plaindealer) more this past year since we moved from McHenry than ever before". That was the word from Lois Choate, whose family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, during the past year. According to her instructions, we'll keep the newspaper heading Iowa way for another year. K.A.F. MOTHER FOUR CHILDREN TREATED FOLLOWING CRASH (Continued from page 1) Parkview lane, McHenry. Ms. Narcum was turning north on Front from Elm and as she made her turn, she ran into the side of a pickup truck driven by Joseph E. Condon of 4304 W. Ponca, McHenry. Condon said he was stopped on Front waiting for the light to change when his vehicle was hit. A citation for disobeying a red light was issued to Virgil A. Lindholm of 609 6th, Marengo, following an accident Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Front and Elm. Steve Stahlman of 4513 Riverdale drive, McHenry, had the green light and as he started to cross Elm, the Lindholm auto passed through on the red light and they collided. Lindholm said he was not paying attention to the light as he came to the in tersection. Eunice L. Tobey of 910 West boulevard, McHenry, was ticketed for failure to yield turning left after her auto hit another driven by Thomas E. Amann of 1102 N. River road, McHenry. The mishap oc curred Sunday evening atx>ut 10 DEFENDER AUDUBON PROGRAM FEATURES RIVER ECOLOGY (Continued from page 1) documented by Amherst college studies. An enthusiastic audience agreed it was an education in the dynamics of river flooding and the intricate ecosystem resulting from it. After the film, De Walt was joined by Lee Bridgeman, district conservationist for Soil Conservation service, Lake and Cook counties; John Shay, director of Civil Defense in McHenry county; and Mrs. Lynn Hadlock, County Board member, to participate in a question and answer session. Much discussion was given to the necessity, and problems involved, of defining the flood plain area to legally protect it. Conrad Floeter, another County Board member present, briefly described the flood plain or dinance being drafted in conjunction with the McHenry County Planning commission. The statement was made by Mr. Bridgeman that chan nelization played an in creasingly small part in his agency's projects; he also noted a recent decision of the State of Wisconsin against the filling of land for flood plain development, and said he felt more such state decisions could be expected. Mrs. Hadlock, moderator for the panel, called a halt to questions at 10 o'clock, suggesting that further questions be put personally to the experts while enjoying refreshments prepared by the Audubon society. o'clock at the corner of Elm and Front street. Amann told officers he was following another car through the intersection with the green light when the car in front of him swerved to avoid colliding with the Tobey vehicle. As he proceeded on, his car was struck. Mrs. Tobey was turning left on Front and said the Amann car was coming too fast and struck her auto. 6% 53/4% ANNUAL YIELD ON 2 YEAR CERTIFICATES OF DEPOSIT 00 MINIMUM DEPOSIT $1000 EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1973 McHENRY STATE BANK PHONE 385-1040 3510 WEST ELM STREET McHENRY A FULL SERVICE BANK J.S, Campbell Joins Family Service Clinic . j.
