PAGE 17-PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, JULY 6, 1973 AT MUSIC CAMP-Among about 155 high school age students attending Illinois Wesleyan university's twenty-first annual senior high music camp June 17-30 were these young people: From left, front row, Steven Cook, Crystal Lake; Mary Nealan, Marengo; Alan Haggh, 1411 Palomino drive, and Vicki Miertiz, 608 S. Orchid path, both McHenry; back row, Rosemary Pintozzi, 3119 Riverstream drive, and Felicia York, 2906 W. Idyle Dell road, McHenry; Kris Hildebrand, 802 Tyrone place, Spring Grove; and Robin Rubenaker, Woodstock. The camp is located at East Bay camp on^Lake Bloomington. In addition to taking part in band, orchestra and chorus, students participated in smaller ensembles, received private instruction, heard recitals and other per formances by members of the Wesleyan faculty as well as camp staff members and students, and had a wide choice of recreational activities. Maurise Willis of the Wesleyan faculty was camp director. PUBLIC PULSE (The Plaindealer invites the public to use this col umn as an expression of their views on subjects of general interest in our community. Our only re quest is that writers lim it themselves to 300 words or less - signature, full address and phone num ber. We ask too, that one individual not write on the same subject more than (Mice each month. We re serve the right to delete any material > which we consider libelous or in ob- jectional taste.) THE LEVESQUE STORY "Editor: "Your front page story about the firing of Jake Levesque in the Wednesday, June 27, edition of the Plaindealer failed to meet your usual high standards of fairness; that is, of presenting both sides of tfoe story. I would appreciate a chance to make some ob servations about the case in your paper to put it in per spective. "First off, I have never met Mr. Levesque and I assume he is qualified for the job of ad ministrative assistant in the State Department of Aeronautics. But anyone who knows anything about politics knows the only reason he got the job in the first place is because he is a Republican precinct committeeman who was an energetic and effective campaigner for the GOP in general and Governor Ogilvie in particular. I don't know who he replaced, but I imagine our former Governor, when he was elected in 1968, canned some Democrat to make room for Mr. Levesque. "If it weren't for patronage politics, there would be a lot of Republicans in McHenry county looking for work. I am thinking in particular of the Secretary of State driver testing station in Woodstock where virtually overnight every Democrat was replaced by a Republican after Paul Powell died. Now they, too, have gone to court claiming some inalienable right to their jobs even though Mike Howlett, a Democrat," was elected Secretary of State by the voters last November. "There are many persons, myself included, who believe that^most lower echelon state jobs shoul^t be phased under civil seryice after competitive testing for them. But there is general agreement among $ students of government of both parties that a newly elected President or Governor should have the right to plaee his own people" in Important decision making and administrative posts. "When President Nixon was reelected last year he asked for •and got the resignations of thousands of government of- A-l Hearing Aid Service F R E E 24 Hour Service 1 SRadloear Maico g Wldex Audlotone I SR.O.Stensland & Associates! The same thing applied for Governor Ogilvie and it should also apply for Governor Walker. I take it for granted that Mr. Levesque's position is an important one; otherwise why is he getting $20,000 for it. "In short, Mr. Levesque's attempt to portray himself as a persecuted martyr is a lot of malarky. If he really wants to save the taxpayers $100,000 in legal fees he should resign like a good sport. I am sure one of his many friends can find him a suitable job to tide him over until another Republican Governor is elected. ^ "DanMcNulty "2004 N. Woodlawn Park "McHenry" (Editor's note -- Not unfair at all, Mr. McNulty! The story was newsworthy and Mr. Levesque (the little man) chose to be quoted. The Plaindealer would be more than happy to print the "other side" to which you refer by quoting "the big men", in this case Governor Walker or Attorney General Scott. But you have done a creditable job of presenting their case).
