Clemencia Reyes and her twelve-year-old daughter, Lucia, of 804 W. Area, McHenry, were transported by ambulance and driver of the other auto, Lester Hobbs of 5323 S. Federal, Chicago, was taken by the McHenry Rescue squad. Mrs. Reyes said she was west-bound on the highway and as she entered the intersection, the Hobbs auto pulled directly into her path. She was unable to avoid impact. Hobbs stated he was stopped at the sign on Griswold Lake road. He checked for traffic and as he proceeded to make a left turn onto the highway, the Reyes auto came around the curve and hit his auto. A witness driving behind Mrs. Reyes' auto verified her statement. Shortly after a car owned by Patricia L. Merkel of 810 N. Center street, McHenry, was stolen from her driveway Thursday night, it was involved in an accident on Idyll Dell road, south of the city. Mrs. Mildred Mann of 3709 W. Idyll Dell road, McHenry, was watching television about 10:30 Thursday night when she heard a car skidding before it hit the front of her home. She went to the door and saw a male youth jump out of the car and run away from the scene. In­ vestigation is continuing by county officials. Eleanor M. Markham and her seven-month-old daughter, Dianna, of 2016 Kerry Lane, McHenry, were taken to McHenry hospital by the rescue squad following a one-vehicle accident Thursday evening about 6:30 on Edge»vood road, south of McHenry. Mrs. Markham reported she was east-bound on Edgewood and didn't remember anything about the accident. She thought she ran off the south side of the roadway, and then returned. A pickup truck-car accident Friday evening about 7 o'clock at 4808 Wilmot road, McHenry, resulted in a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an ac­ cident being issued to Thomas D Hauck of 907 W. Edgewood road. McHenry. Jacqueline L. Race of 4808 Wilmot road was slowing to make a right turn into her driveway when the rear of her auto was hit by the pickup truck. Hauck said he saw the brake lights on the auto but was unable to avoid impact. Ms. Race was taken to McHenry hospital by the Johnsburg Rescue squad for treatment of minor injuries. When Valentine F. Sauer of 5016 Route 173, Richmond, attempted to turn into his driveway last Friday af­ ternoon, he was struck from behind by a car driven by Robert F. Kobuch, Sr., 10117 Williams street, Richmond. Kobuch was east-bound on the highway when he suddenly noticed that the Sauer car had stopped in front of him. He attempted to apply his brakes but hit the accelerator instead and struck the rear of Sauer's auto. Kobuch was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. David J. Rte. 120 Phone: ^McHenry^^^ 385-0783 Deaths SUSAN JUSTEN Mrs. Susan Justen, 85, a lifelong resident of the McHenry area, died Thursday, July 5, in the Highland Nursing home, Genoa City, Wis. Mrs. Justen was born Nov. 15, 1887, in Johnsburg. She was married in 1908 in Johnsburg to Jacob F. Justen, who died in 1959. For the past twenty-nine years she had made her home on Pearl street. The deceased was a member of the National Catholic Order of Foresters, the Christian Mothers and the Royal Neigh­ bors of America. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Alma) Anderson and Mrs. Jerome (Evelyn) Steinbach of McHenry; two sons. Alex of McHenry and Donald of Ringwood; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and nine sisters. She was the last living member of a family of twelve. The body rested at the George R. Justen & Son chapel Friday. A funeral Mass was offered at 9:30 Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic church, with burial in the church cemetery. FRANK ADLER Frank Adler, 80, of 806 Southgate, McHenry, was pronounced dead on arrival at McHenry hospital Saturday, July 7. Mr. Adler was a retired barber and real estate salesman in the Johnsburg and McHenry communities. The deceased was born in Hungary May 10, 1893. He had resided in this area for twenty- six years. taken to McHenry hospital by another motorist after he totaled his pick-up truck in a one-vehicle accident Sunday morning about 4:30 on Griswold Lake road. Henkel told officers he saw a raccoon in the road and swerved to the shoulder in an attempt to avoid hitting it. His vehicle slid on the shoulder and hit a tree stump. He was cited for failure to report an accident immediately. Thirteen-year-old Randall S. High of 5902 Valley View road, Crystal Lake, was cited for no valid driver's license after the mini-bike he was driving caused an accident at the intersection of Valley View road and Terra Cotta avenue, east of Crystal Lake. Lorraine A. Mitchell of 3402 First street, McHenry, was south-bound on Valley View when the mini-bike pulled out of a driveway into her lane of traffic. In trying to avoid a collision, Ms. Mitchell was forced to go off the roadway, where she hit a utility pole. He is survived by his wife, Irma, nee Sandy, to whom he was married fifty-four years Feb. 8, 1973. Mr. Adler was a member of McHenry Lodge, AF & AM, No. 158, Cavalry Commandery, No. 25, Woodstock, and Shrine Tebala Temple, Rockford. The body rested at the Peter M. Justen & Son chapel, where services were conducted at 11 o'clock Tuesday, with private burial. iMasonic services were held Monday at 8 p.m. IEA WINS SUIT The Illinois Education association (IEA) has won a precedential $2.6 billion law suit against the State of Illinois, obligating the state to adequately fund the Teachers Retirement system and the State Universities Retirement system. Dr. Curtis Plott, IEA executive secre'ary, stated that a firm funding schedule for eventual actuarial funding of the retirement systems had been agreed to by both parties in the suit prior to the decision. "It is obvious that the state cannot immediately meet the total obligation called for in the court award," he emphasized. "The funding would be distributed over a 50-year period with an initial payment of some $245 million." Each generation seems to think that nothing existed until it came along. Republican Play Day Scheduled For July 18 The McHenry County Republican Party's Play Day is approaching rapidly, according to A1 Jourdan, chairman. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, July 18, at the McHenry Country club, will get under way with golfing and boat rides. Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. As in past annual events, indications are that several hundred will again be in at­ tendance. Tickets are available from each of the 118 Republican precinct committeemen and may be secured to include the entire day's activities or just the dinner. An annual highlight of the event is the awarding of prizes contributed by businessmen and other individuals throughout the area. IN TRAINING - Rescue squad members from Richmond and Wonder Lake take part in a training course involving 82 hours of instruction in emergency care and transportation of the sick and wounded. Forty-five earned their registration with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Ambulance. Course was conducted by McHenry hospital and McHenry County college in conjunction with the hospital's responsibility as the Local Trauma center.
