Mr. Hunter, Sr., who died in Feb. 1930, learned his boat building in the shipyards of Hull, England. He founded the Hunter Boat company in Chicago in 1889 and eleven years later he moved to McHenry in the center of the lake region. His son, who is now president and treasurer of the business, first began working in the plant nineteen years ago and has been in'control of the business for the past six years. A picnic and family reunion was held in the woods of Nick Weingart, east of McHenry, July 31. There were seventy- five present. Howard Culver has pur chased the Parr barber shop on Green street. Mr. Culver had been proprietor of the Lake barber shop at Crystal Lake for several years, took over the Parr shop this week and is ready for business. Mr. and Mrs. Culver will live in the building also. Hamilton Pan- has gone to Volo, where he has opened a barber shop. Mr. and Mrs. George Justen are at Almena, Wis., for a two weeks vacation. McHenry County 4-H club boys and girls will hold their annual 4-H club Achievement Day program at Harvard community high school Aug. 11. The winners from this show will have expenses paid to Camp Watomatcheck in 1933. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Aug. 7, 1947) As authorized by favorable returns of an election held last week, the Emerald Park school building will be disposed of at a public sale, Aug. 29. More college openings for veterans will be available this fall than at any time in the past two years. During the summer, t forty-nine institutions reported an enrollment of 59,128 students.
