PLAN CLASS REUNION McHenry Community high school Class of '48 is planning to celebrate its twenty-fifth class reunion with a dinner-dance Saturday, Sept. 22. The com­ mittee has been unable to locate several members of the class including Kevin Hanley, Richard Ludwig, Beverly Pederson and Marilyn Prince ^Irs. Sam Manina). Miss Thelen Recites Vows On Saturday A pretty summer wedding was solemnized at St. Patrick's Catholic church Saturday, July 7, when Christine Thelen exchanged nuptial vows with Douglas Wilson. The Rev. Edmund Petit officiated at the 2 o'clock afternoon ceremony. MisS1 Thelen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dom- browski of 3314 W. Washington street, McHenry, and Mr. Wilson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess B. Wilson of 3418 Ralmark lane, Glenview. Among special musical arrangements presented at the ceremony were "One Hand, One Heart", "The Wedding Song" and "We've Only Just Begun". Solist for the occasion was the groom's sister, Mrs. Debbie King. The lovely bride chose a floor length gown of white dotted Swiss fashioned with a ruffle circling the round neckline, long puffed sleeves and a ruffle flounce at the hemline of the skirt. She wore a wide- brimmed white hat featuring a dotted Swiss band and streamers with fresh daisies on the back of the hat. She carried a bouquet of white, blue and pink daisies. Mrs. Jean Wilson of Bolingbrook was matron of honor. Miss Gayle Truckenbrod of McHenry served as bridesmaid. The attendants wore floral print dotted Swiss gowns in shades of blue, red and yellow designed with white V-necked bodices and short bolero jack­ ets with long sleeves. White wide- brimmed hats trimmed with tri-colored ban^s and streamers of blue, red and yellow completed their en­ sembles. Each carried a bouquet of white daisies, red carnations and blue statis. Jay Wilson of Bolingbrook served as best man. Jeff Thelen of McHenry, the bride's brother, was groomsman. The bride's mother wore a floor length gown of floral pastel featuring long sleeves and a mandarin collar. The groom's mother chose a formal length, sleeveless gown in a blue and white patchwork design. The voyage was launched from the home of v* co-hostess Mrs. Sandy (John) Black, 3116 Eastwood drive, Wonder Lake. The table centerpiece was a replica of an old sailing boat complete in detail even to the flag at the top of the mast. Eighteen members and two guests were presented with a miniature copy of the ship with a menu of over a dozen dishes of Scandinavian origin. The art work was done by co-hostess Mrs. Lynn (Bruce) Toussaint. The dishes were prepared by both Sandy Black and Lynn Toussaint. After the many tempting and delicious dishes had been sampled and enjoyed, and the countries of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark were discussed by all The business turned to plans for a booth," At Harvesting Our Heritage Bazaar" which is a county project to be held later in the fall. A workshop meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Cindy (Richard) Harris, 4710 Rose street, Crystal Lake on July 16 at 7:30 and all members are urged to attend. After the business meeting was concluded, the members departed for home by way of their individual sailing ships to end another interesting, en­ joyable and fun evening. Membership in the group is open to every woman at any unit meeting. For information regarding the time, date and place call 653-4646. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the V.F.W. hall for 170 guests. Upon their return from a wedding trip to Wisconsin, the couple will make their home in DesPlaines. Miss Thelan attended St. Patrick's elementary school and Marian Central high, Woodstock. Mr. Wilson at­ tended St. Patrick's in Decatur and Glenbrook South high in Glenview. Both young people graduated from Northern Illinois university, DeKalb, with Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Education. The bride will begin her employment with the Singer company in August. Her bridegroom teaches tennis and tee ball with the Park district in Glenview. NATIONAL NEWSPAPER '»»»*<* 'W """•.•si HHk SUSTAINING 8 Members of the family of Mrs. Elvera Durland gathered in the city Salute Former County Beauty Queens July 14 More than half the twenty- five winners of the Miss McHenry County titles will be on hand for the twenty-fifth year observance of the McHenry County Fair this Saturday night, July 14, at the Woodstock VFW. The affair is a chance to salute these past beauty queens, to honor the past presidents and to pause a moment to ascertain the value of this annual attraction at Woodstock which has become the showcase for the 4-H boys and girls year after year. The public is invited to participate in this special twenty-fifth year salute, and tickets are available from the fair officers, at the Farm Bureau and from Don Peasley, public relations coordinator who has been involved with every one of the twenty-four previous Miss McHenry County pageants. The event opens with a cocktail hour and reception for the past Miss McHenry County winners at 6:30 p.m. The dinner starts at 7:30 p.m. with Tom PWP County Chapter Will Hear Clergyman Parents Without Partners, Crystal Lake Chapter 189, will hold its general meeting Friday, July 13, at 8:30 p.m. in the Yacht club room of the Crystal Bowl, Rts 31 and 176, Crystal Lake. Newcomers are asked to come at 8 p.m. for orientation. The speaker for the evening will be the Rev. Jim Bidle of the Congregational church, Crystal Lake. His topic will be about "Transactional Analysis" with a question and answer period following the program. July will be a busy month for P.W.P. The coming activities include an international pot- luck dinner, a family trip to Marine day and the drum and bugle corps show, adult roller skating, birthday party, coffee and discussion, a cook- out, family day at Pioneer park, and Amigo's. On July 13, President Dick Gilpin, corresponding Secretary Kathy Brown, and Helen Grochocki will be on WIVS Radio, Crystal Lake station, at 10 p.m. They will speak on Parents Without Partners and will answer questions phoned in by listeners of the program. Parsley, who has a reputation as outstanding football coach and athletic director, also has the credentials as a judge of beauty queens. He's served as an of­ ficial at many of the past Miss McHenry County contests, and he married a beauty queen and two-time Illinois Dairy Prin­ cess, Patricia Hogan Parsley! Past Miss McHenry County winners and former heads of the county fair, as well as those who've served as chairmen of this Miss McHenry County pageant, will participate in the program. Each of the honored guests will receive a certificate of appreciation from the County Fair association as a token of appreciation for their part in making this fair grow into its current successful status. Through the years, the fair has grown so that today it attracts over 60,000 people, and facilities have been expanded rapidly to accommodate both more exhibitors and more vision. Here's a list of those past Miss McHenry County winners who've confirmed reservations to attend this twenty-fifth year observance. Entire Family Joins Resident On Birthday A celebration long to be remembered by Mrs. Elvera Durland marked the occasion of her birthday July 9. The celebration, which brought together her four children, twenty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, was held in the city park Sunday, July 8, at l o'clock. Between 4 and 7 p.m., friends joined the long time local resident in observance of her special day. Mrs. Durland's children are Mary Kauss of Mexico, Jane Kidder of San Jose, Calif., Mitzi Griffith of Great Falls, Va., and Joan Larkin of McHenry, all of whom attended with their families. In all, about seventy- five were present. Grandchildren and great­ grandchildren attended from Thailand, California, Mexico City, Alaska, Minnesota, Virginia, Des Plaines and Chicago, as well as McHenry. HONORSTUDENT Allen Jung of 3620 N. Grand avenue, McHenry, was among the nearly 2500 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater students who achieved academic honors during second semester of the 1972-73 school year. Of the total honor students, 230 received grades of straight A for a 4.0 average. A«*fcadditional 1,089 earned grade point averages of from 3.5 to 3.99 and were ac­ corded first honors. Second honors, for grade point averages of from 3.0 to 3.49 were granted to 1322 students. To earn honors, a student must carry at least 12 credits, with no grade below C. MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM JORDAN- FLAG MEMORIAL Last Saturday, July 7, the flag was raised on the new pole at McHenry hospital. The pole was purchased from the auxiliary to McHenry Hospital Memorial fund in memory of Carl Cross, whose wife has for many years been a Pink Lady at the hospital. Mrs. Cross had requested that donations be sent to the auxiliary fund in lieu of flowers. The flag was donated by the V.F.W. Fox River Ladies Auxiliary, No. 4600. Wm. Jordans Wed 60 Years July 10, 1973, marked the sixtieth wedding anniversary of William and Lilah Jordan of McHenry. Friends gathered at the First United Methodist church of McHenry for a pot- luck dinner Sunday, July 8, to celebrate the happy occasion with the couple. Bill and Lilah Jordan were married July 10, 1913, in the parsonage of a Methodist church in Chicago. Mrs. Jordan was born in McHenry, and at the age of 11, moved to Chicago with her family, where she later met her future husband. After their marriage, they lived in Chicago until 1959, when they moved to McHenry to reside in the old family homestead where she was born. Both Mr. and Mrs. Jordan are active and loved members of the First United Methodist church of McHenry. She is also a member of the McHenry Women's club and Royal Neighbors of America. Her husband is retired after forty years' service with the Grodan Coal company of Chicago. The Jordans have two sons.
